just ordered the 17" mbp with 2.93ghz, 320 gb 7200rpm drive and anti glare screen +apple care...3 WEEEKS for delivery![]()
-
Nice! I so wanted to order one, but my wife put me on a budget! I've been getting too many toys lately. Definitely post some pics and a review when you take delivery and have had a chance to mess with it
-
for sure! ill be running shake..got it with 4gb ram for now..will wait for some months then up it to 8gb..am sure by then someone will have figured out how to change it without paying apple 100++USD
the 1920x1080 glossy screen looks delicious i have to say but for my work i need an anti-glare screen. its easy to connect a fw800 cable and transfer all my stuff from my old mbp 15.4"2007 right ?
-
right!AFAIK,it will transfer all your files/programs/settings.
EDIT: BTW,congrats man! -
Yep, you can boot your old machine in target mode and transfer the user account and applications. Real simple to do
-
sweeeet...the girl at apple said she will try to get it in 2 week but no promises.
-
I heard MBP17 going to delay
BTW Congratulations .... -
-
OSeeeeeeeeX.....
 -
I think that delay is only when you specify the anti-glare screen; at least I hope so. -

"While the Web site is still telling potential customers that it will ship in 2 to 3 weeks, our sources suggest that this is unlikely if you happened to have ordered one with the anti-glare screen, as this seems to push the shipment date out for about four to six additional weeks."
-
well maybe thats why she said 3 weeks ?
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Well, 2-3 weeks (or 7-10 days now) + 4-6 additional weeks if you ordered the anti-glare is what they are saying.
If you went with the glossy, it is still on track for 7-10 days. -
hmmm well not much i can do i guess.
guess my dell m6400 16gb/quad core, nvidia 3700m, dual 500gb, RHEL5.1 will come first
-

Ugh, I had a M6400. Those corners are sharp enough to cut cheese, enjoy.
-
and they are bigger than the new mbp 17" and also heavier!!!!
-
the mac will run shake and nuke, the dell will run nuke on windows [ http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/pkg_over...-C198B0171453]
the dell will also have pftrack [ if i can still afford it, http://www.thepixelfarm.co.uk/produc...ts.aspx?PID=3] & unreal tournament 3 -
Apple isn't really charging a premium for 8GB, it is just very expensive right now. Give it 6 months and it should be quite cheap though.
The Glass screen is the way to go, I don't see why an Anti-Glare screen would be any benefit at all for compositing. I don't know why everyone assumes a Anti-Glare screen is more color accurate. . . it has nothing at all to do with the coating of the screen but the panel itself.
Why oh why do you need Shake and Nuke? Either one can be completely reconfigured. No offense but having the latest and greatest tech has nothing to do with creating interesting work. -
4GB 1x DDR3 ram is very expensive,I don't think that you ll save much buy getting ram elsewhere

funny thing...the re-sellers here refused to comment on the many reports of the 9400/9600 issues on the unibody MBP 15".. when i asked them if there might be a problem on the 17" nvidia cards as well and that's why shipping might be delayed ?
BUT our in house engineer spoke to a friend of his at apple HQ se asia..and that guy verbally confirmed that they KNOW about this problem with the nvidia chips and are trying to find a solution and that's why the deliveries are delayed...so i tot id try canceling my order that i placed on the 29th of jan and the apple reseller says they cannot cancel cos its a customized model etc..i looked up returns policies on the apple Singapore site it says >22. Custom-Configured Product
We are pleased to offer product that is custom-configured to your specifications, and we encourage you to review your order carefully.
Since the product is built to your specifications, the order cannot be changed, modified or canceled once your order has been prepared for shipment.
http://store.apple.com/Catalog/Singa...rrighttoreturn
i fwded this to apple in se asia.. cos there is no way in Hell that the 17" i ordered on the 29th of jan is ready for shipment .. and of course they ignored my email.
WEIRD huh ? -
Well you can most definitely just cancel your order, given the delay. Apple sent out a note today that the MBP 17" will be delayed further, and that everyone is free to cancel their orders if they like.
I am waiting for some reviews on this.... I am especially interested to hear whether the battery life lives up to the claims.
I am getting glossy. I am working on my MBP 15" matte and I really like the screen. But since I am now considering glossy I took a second look about the outdoors performance and you know what, there's A LOT of reflections on my *matte* screen too. The reflections are just kinda blurred out over a large area, but they are definitely there. So glossy means sharp mirror-like reflections, and matte means blurred-out reflections.
Apple note see here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/04/17-inch-macbook-pro-delayed-two-weeks/ -
I have both and it's night and day difference in usability IMO. One of favourite rooms in my house has a nice seat facing in, back to a window and I love sitting there working. I've taken both the matte and the glossy there and I strictly take the matte now. Yes there is reflection in the matte too but it's so muted compared to the glossy. In contrast, the glossy screen had very pronounced reflections which sometimes overwhelmed the image on the screen and in many cases it rendered the whole screen useless, even at full brightness.
If I was getting the new 17 MBP I'd definitely pay the $50 and get the matte option. And I'm willing to bet that in the next major redesign of MBP we'll see a full come-back of the matte screens.
