stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
1. are you talking about the little plastic thing?
2. dont have one, but i've always heard they're very easy to set up and have good range. plus they have the usb port and now gigabit ethernet. so i would say buy it. -
1) MagSafe? Yeah, there's lots of places to get them.
2) The AirPort Extreme is a fantastic router that is easy to use, but I personally think there are cheaper routers out there by Linksys and such that are great as well. -
1. has been answered
2. I bought one recently .. and it's been great... blazing fast speeds .. with 802.11 draft n wireless... and if your computer has gigabit ethernet then u can make use of that too by directly hooking up a lan cable to it from teh router...
Both these can be done by other routers though .. at a cheaper rate... for me teh deal maker was teh fact that i could hook up my printer/external hard drive to the airport extreme base station and get access to all my files wirelessly ...
Word of caution: if you find this really appealing and intend to use an external HDD connected to ur airport extreme base stn... ur external hard drive better not be ntfs .. because it's not supported! ... fat32 or hfs+ will do -
Huh, hey Zambie, if you format your NAS drive to the airport and format it to HFS+, can a windows or linux box read it? I'm not sure if it uses some sort of SAMBA to server those files or what.
I do like that you can use it as a print server. -
To be honest hollownail ... i don't quite know yet .... my windows system isn't around ever since iv bought the mac... iv kept my windows usage to an absolute minimum ... BUT ... i have positively read that an hfs+ formatted external hdd can be read by a windows system thru the airport base station
(macosxhints website)... i'll try and dig the thread up again ... -
That would be unnecessary. You would never want to hook up a NAS over USB 2.0, but rather use the gigabit. Then it is just a NAS, format doesn't matter since the AirPort has nothing to do with it.
As for AEBS, there are a few routers that have the same feature set, but they are only marginally cheaper, and you do not get the AirPort Utility with them, which is more than worth the extra money.
