I managed to buy a 6 week old refurbished macbook pro at 2.8ghz, with 4gb ram and a 320gb HDD.
    its a late 08 model.
Arnt they surpose to have 500gb HDD's and if they only have 320gb hdd's?
Also is it 540rpm or 7200 rpm and is there any way to find out?

i got it for £1025 +£25 P&P and warranty till 22june 2010 which il upgrade for an extra 2 years near its end.
    il have it saturday :)

    EDIT
Also didnt the macbook pros only go to 2.66ghz?
Although the apple info on the box(pic on ebay) shows 2.8ghz, 320gb HDD.

If mine was the best model it means i can put 8gb right? (once its cheap)

If you check Apple's refurb listings currently, they do have both 2.8 and 2.66 models listed and there is a 2.8 w/500GB hdd there.

As for hdd speed, Apple uses only 5400rpm drives in their stock baseline units, with 7200 rpm as an upgrade. You can google the serial number once you receive it to get the drive speed.

i think that apple didnt make a 2.8ghz laptop in before summer 09 and that the 2.8ghz processor was a upgrade in the 2.66ghz mode, is that right?
and if thats true, then that model would have had a 320gb hdd right?

£1025 is a good deal for that spec macbook pro i think considering its only 6 weeks old.

No this is the EARLIEST Late 2008 15" MBP, and yes it is stock with a 320GB HD. At first it was 2.4, 2.53 (which was upgradeable to 2.8 which is what this laptop is). Then it became 2.4, 2.66 (which was upgradeable to 3.09). According to the pictures it seems like the original owner also bought a refurbished one. Theres one on the apple refurbished site for 1780 USD, and your paying 1025GBP which is 1716 USD so I think you are paying the normal price as if you were buying a refurbished one from apple.

US prices never equal UK prices. We always way extra premium.
But iv only heard good things about apple refurbs and if i get it covered for 3 years, theres not much to worry about.

There was a few in the apple refurb section earlier today which where the same and they cost £1389 so UK prices suck but compared to other deals, this is quite decent.
2.53Ghz new model macbook pros were going around £980ish so this is a good deal. I didnt want the new 2.53 as its got no extra graphics card, 2.66ghz(new) was too expensive and the 2.4ghz went for £900 but id need to install ram. So this worked out quite well, i would have been happy with an old 2.53 or 2.66ghz model too but there werent any.

Do you mean google the HDD serial number?

Sorry, meant the model number . But otherwise, yes, you can take that info and track it down through the manufacturer's site (Hitachi, Toshiba, etc) to get the drive specs.

the warranty is attached to the mac and not to the owner.

My late 08 MBP specs are in the sig...mine was 250g HDD. There were multiple options when I bought it, however I'm pretty sure 500g wasn't one of them.
