    Hi guys,

    Key info:

    2010 13-inch MacBook Pro
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
256GB Apple SSD (177GB hard drive still available)
    All software fully updated.
    Onyx run on regular basis.

I am hoping someone can offer me some advice or suggestions. For several months my MBP and SSD has performed great. Recently, for no apparent reason, the shutdown time of my MBP has increased dramatically - from 2-3 secs to 20+ secs. To the best of my knowledge it has not happened after any particular software or hardware update.

I have Googled the problem extensively, but to no avail. I have tried all the possible solutions I have found - e.g. Checking startup items, checking the system log for errors / culprits, checking the Activity Monitor for CPU-intensive processes / applications, entering various sudo commands etc etc. Still no joy!

I am hoping that, at worst, the forthcoming Trim support in Lion will resolve the problem and keep my SSD running smooth, but in the meantime, I’d love to get my shutdown time back to 2-3 secs.

Any thoughts / ideas / experiences / suggestions / feedback would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks!

Have you run "Verify Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility yet?

If not, give that a whirl. If that doesn't help, I'd recommend installing and running Onyx and letting it clean you System Cache, User Cache, Launch Services and run its Maintenance Scripts.

I'm sure others will be along with good recommendations as well.

@ajreynol: Thanks for the quick reply! I have ran 'Verify Disk Permissions' in Disk Utility and, as you can see from my post, I do have Onyx installed and run it regularly.

oh shoot, I missed that bullet point.

hmmm. Does Console list any apps that might be causing some hanging?

Also, try out lingon. It identifies everything loading and running on the machine and allows you to disable/enable things.

I have taken a look at Console and the System Log and there is one thing that could potentially be causing the delay - that is mDNSresponder. But, I can't find too much about it, if I can stop it loading (safely!) etc etc.

I'm not familiar with lingon, but I'll certainly take a look and check it out. Thanks!
