I've been looking for a Macbook for a while and I just came across a deal on eBay for a 2010 Macbook air for $675 shipped. I am wondering if you guys think this is worth it? It has the base specs 1.4 C2D, 64GB SSD. I would just use it for browsing on the couch and such, what do you guys think?

I think the 13" is a better choice... the 11" screen is really tiny and a 1.4ghz core 2 duo is pretty slow... and 64GB of storage is very limiting.
the 13" from the same time period is much more manageable. -

Well, given that all they want to do is use it to surf around on the internet, the performance of the 1.4GHz C2D isn't going to be all that noticeable. Flash HD videos will still load just fine, Flash games are going to work, websites will be fine, etc. There isn't anything that the 1.4GHz C2D can't do in terms of basic usage.
That price seems like it is OK though it depends on how used the model actually is (i.e. is it physically flawed? Hows the battery?), if it comes with Lion pre-installed, and a few other things. It would be a nice couch unit to just sit back and surf the internet with but the display size might get to you since the MBA would be sitting in your lap. Unlike a 9.7" iPad, you can't really hold it closer to your face when browsing so the 11" display might strain your eyes unless you don't have any issues working with smaller displays.
The 13" would be better for viewing websites and media with the MBA in your lap but even a used one is going to be expensive for something that you just want to use as a netbook. -
I've gotten the air for the exact same purpose, but it's just too hard.
If you are just in it for the web browsing,
Why not get the first gen ipads that are ridiculously cheap nowadays for around 250 or so?

backlit keyboard is pretty critical/important to some individuals especially at the Ultra portable end.

I briefly had one, 11" MBA with the 1.4GHz CPU. Bought it only because of a MacMall/Ebay deal for $750 brand new.. Surfing was fine, but one time I let my son use it for a flash intensive site and it was unbearably slow, basically unusable. I sold it soon after.
Depending on what you do with it, the performance difference between the 2010 and 2011 MBA can be day and night, such as going on that same flash intensive site. -

There was something wrong if the Flash intensive site was causing issues (either that or it was trying to run some complex 3D game). My manager has an 11" 1.4GHz MBA and he is able to access Flash heavy websites such as IGN, Waterlife, and even We Choose The Moon. That is all under Lion and the last two versions of Flash using Safari.
