Well they're close in specs but the MBP has a better screen and a SD reader.

$200 for a better screen, aluminum build quality and an SD reader makes sense.

The Wifi reception on the plastic Macbook is probably better though. And the screen is less reflective.

No Firewire in Book. Big difference, since rumor had it that it would have the 800.

So for the $200 you get firewire too. When they said this was a "basic" Mac they meant it.

So the real debate is Ipad or MacBook?

As if I didn't regret my Aspire 4741G purchase already, this comes out just three days after my purchase. Great, now I'm tempted to sell my laptop for US$200 less to pick this up.

Great looking laptop, though I admit the lack of SD-card reader doesn't make a whole lot of sense (even netbooks have them standard).

Not being frameless aside, what is supposed to be the major differences between the Macbook and Macbook Pro 13" screens? Does anyone have a clue?

seems like a machine intentionally down-spec'd in order to justify the 13" MBP's pricetag.

i don't like it when vendors play that game.

The MBP has a 72% gamut, the MB has 45%.

I haven't seen the 2010 MB screen yet but I expect it to be the same screen as in the current Macbook. It's contrast is pretty good, brightness is average.

Contrast and brightness on the MBP are both very good.

Another important difference is that the MBP has a thick glass layer in front of the screen, while the MB doesn't.

Neither will be very good for outside work with sunlight, the MB due to the average brightness, the MBP due to the reflections.

$200 more for... aluminum case, slightly better screen, backlit keyboard, 2gb more of ram, SD reader, Firewire 800....

seems like the normal Macbook is a rip off really. They charge 100 just to go to 4gb of ram

Chances are, if you own a MBP you love attention to detail.

I too was considering the MB until I tried it out for myself at Best Buy ... Might as well get a Dell.

The build quality between the two machines are orders of magnitudes apart, or maybe it's the aluminum finish of the MBP that's creating that illusion ... That being said, I would never buy a MB, in my opinion a MBP is much more value for money.

Yea, I just got the 13 inch macbook pro in the mail today and ordered it 2 days ago. I think I might have ordered the macbook because of the updates... but seriously, this backlit keyboard is sick.

I see it as if you can afford a $999 laptop, you can afford a $1199 laptop. Seriously mind as well go up to the Pro.

Apple really needs to cut the regular Macbook by $150-$200 or even more for it to be even useful in their line up.

I can see them selling A LOT of Macbooks at the $699 or $799 price point.

since buying a mbp with glass (i had an older white mb)...i'd say...i'd prefer the standard glossy screen over the glass if i had to use it outside or in areas where there's a lot of background light/reflections.

sure it's nice that the mbp can have higher brightness, but i have to use max brightness in most situations outdoors in order to see anything (which really hurts the battery life). i'm also more distracted by the reflections in lower light situations.

my friend has a new i7 mbp 15" with HD Matte screen...so nice!

anyways, glad to see apple updated the white one. it's good for the daily average user who isnt looking to expand their system or depend on it to do anything crazy. price is still slightly high, but for the kind of service you can receive during the life of your product, i'd say it's worth it.

Apple should offer a matte screen on the 13". I just switching to a 15" matte screen from glossy and I love it. Enough people ask for it around here that you would think Apple would sell lots. Plus, probably more margin for them well they sell a MBP from teh website as opposed to Best Buy.

Yeah, but who has any FW800 cables? When I went to try target mode migration via FW I could not find a store that had FW800 cables. Its not as though monoprice is walking distance to my house. FW is really becoming a fringe pro feature.

What do you mean turn yellow? Like the unibody casing? I don't know.

Just get a Pro and not worry about all these things. I mean, I can understand saving money but this is a no brainer ... Seriously.

I agree with what's been said before:

$200 more for... aluminum case, better screen, backlit keyboard, 2gb more RAM, SD reader, Firewire 800....

    It's a no brainer.

well the only thing that matters to 99% of buyers is the aluminum casing and maybe the backlit keyboard.

2 GB of RAM is enough to get on Facebook and type documents.

They don't even know what the heck Firewire 800 is and will never use it. They might use the SD reader one time total.

And the MacBook screen is by no means bad.
