With the very decent leap in power/features (USB 3, very fast SSD) from 2011 to 1012 Airs, could we dream to get one version of the Air with Retina display next year?

Seeing as how the graphics get an awesome boost with 8Gb RAM and Intel HD 4000 from 4Gb, could the next generation of Intel HD power the Retina display on the Air?

Maybe not the same resolution as the 15" Pro, but at least the same ppi?

the problem is always the battery, you better pray for those sharp IGZO screens to come out, the mbp 15 has a 75wh, the RMBP has a 95wh battery, and both deliver similar battery life.

But yes, I think they are going to go retina, when? I dont know.

I hope the MBP 13 gets revamped soon, the size just feels right, and I hope that they cut 300g of the weight at least.

I hope the design changes soon, too! I liked the design of the last generation MBP a lot more than this one. It felt more... Professional.

And I also wonder... How/if the Air will change...

A 15" Air .2 inches thicker than the 13", with retina and better specs would be so awesome.

the 15 air is out, its called RMBP.

Apple cycles product designs not often and the chassis from this series is from 2010, maybe next year we shall have a new mba design, but dont count on it.

Given that the design of this mbp gen is so similar to the last gen models... I dont have a serious opinion. I dont care for anorexic thin, I care about the weight and the width footprint, those are the things that break my back or make me use larger bags. Though my current backpack will take the RMBP 15, including my leather messenger bags, but the weight is just the same, though granted its much more power.

I know, I've played with the retina, and while it IS awesome, the price is just too much. It's not very "Air" to me. The screen is too thick, while the body is very decent. The Air is just perfect for me now, even though I've been dreaming of a 15" for a long time.

The fullscreen function in the Air in Safari and Office helps a lot!

I think they'll keep the Air the cheaper line... and not put in higher res displays.

maybe not in the next year, but I believe they are going for retina all over their product line.

But I agree, they may put the air as the affordable mac, as it is right now.

My guess is that they completley remove the MPB 13 in in the future and replace it with a Macbook Air 13 with retina display.

Face it, its absurd to have two similar notebooks that are identical in terms of performance and comparable in specifications.

identical in terms of performance aint the exact word, they are indeed similar. My mbp 13 2011 should give more performance still than the i7 in the mba 2012, but they are still close.

And that is one of the things that intel is trying to do, to make a substantial difference between their cpus, to put quads in a lower tdp. 35w quads exist, and shall continue so. well actually intel is putting different tdps in haswell, if I remember correctly its 37w and 47w for their mainstream cpus. but that is due to integration of other stuff into the cpu.

Dream, yes. People can always dream. I don't believe Apple have come up with a technology to control people dream yet. And I don't think they will by 2013.
