I think the title sums up the article pretty well. There's not much else to say, well actually it has diamonds too. Also, the company that customized this Gold & Diamond MBP is Computer Choppers.

Weight?!
Oo
-
That's awesome, now this makes me want to buy a mac book
-
Ok, that is really bloody awesome. It will destroy the weight, but its gold....I want one.
-
That.... sounds..... perfectly reasonable.....
-
Ah yes, nothing gives off the decadent feeling of using your money for completely unjustifiable expenses like randomly plating and adding diamonds to your laptop. After all, the MBP just isn't enough of an attraction for thieves without gold plating
You gotta wonder if some people have their priorities straight (i.e. the people who actually create demand for these kinds of products).
-
Gee, I wonder if its expensive
.
If anyone buys this, be prepared to be lectured by me on how you're spending your money on wasteful things such as a gold MBP when you could have donated it to charity.
-
Dude, I would totally buy that if I had the cash. A gold MBP is just so friggin awesome, and its different from the silver ones that EVERYONE has.
-
Get it painted then! Instead of covering it with gold!
-
I'm holding out for a Platinum edition! Gold is just not enough
.
-
So who wants to be the first to do the drop-test on it to check its durability?
-
Let's get Andrew to sponsor the test
.
-
That's mental - wonder how much! And weight and imagine taking that out to Starbucks!!! lol
-
At what tempt does gold deform?
-
IMO for an electronic device, anodized aluminum >>> gold in appearance.

Here you go. Just $1,500 to have your MBP gold plated. Such a deal! -
Price is actually not too bad. I mean, if you bought a 2.4MBP from Apple with 4GB of RAM with absolutely no promotions (i.e. academic, printer/ipod rebates etc.), you would've ended up paying nearly $1.5k extra from what you could've paid (buying your own RAM, with academic discounts, rebates, and then ebaying ipod + printer). So think of it as just paying the base price of a MBP!

Looks pretty nice, but only "old people" wear gold, right?
A little bit OT:
Has anyone ever polished their aluminium Powerbooks or Macbook Pro's to a mirror-like finish? As I understand, aluminium can be polished, but it's a pretty hard job. I think I once saw someone polishing his alu Shuttle XPS box and it looked really nice! It came out like a shiny toaster!
EDIT: I found the "toaster" link. Anyone feel like trying? Metkumods -
That's pretty slick! I like it better than the gold!
-
What do you do when it comes time to upgrade?
-
!
-
eventhough it will be heavy, if they completely replace the chassis instead of just gold plating it, we might see cooler (temperature wise) MBP.
