I am upgrading my new mbp to 3 gigs of ram. With the cheap price of ram now days i was even debating going to 4 gigs. I know that the new core duo can handle 4 gigs of ram but will i really notice difference? I do use final cut and photoshop which are both CPU intensive programs but even then i dont know if the jump from 3 to 4 will make much of a difference. Anyone have any ideas or any benchmarks i can look at? Any info would be great.

Well, since its so cheap already, I don't see any issue with going to 4 GB. 3 GB is already more than enough, but while you're at it, why not just get 4? :p

And it will help in the long run. Its hard to predict what the system requirements are going to be for future applications and such.

And by the way, its the new Core 2 Duo with the Santa Rosa platform that supports 4 GB. Core Duos only supported 2 GB.

Yeah, with 4 GB you can get dual channel (2GBX2GB)

Go with 4 gigs. Dual-channel (having paired memory sticks) gives you better performance.

I would go 4 if you can afford it. Even if you don't really need it now, it will help your notebook age more gracefully. And actually with Photoshop the more RAM the better.

I upgraded from 2GB to 3GB (the max on my C2D) and I noticed a bigger difference than I thought I would, especial using VMware Fusion or doing graphics work where I end up with 10 apps open...
