Any thought on this, as I found that they sell them on ebay for about $150 or so..

Do you mean the Seagate Momentus XT?
-
its a good drive; I had it in my old 17" and didnt have any issues with it
-
I have it in my MBP and it runs great...
BTW... it's a lot less here. -
sweet, thanks guys..

what is the actual difference if compared to real ssd? and why is it called hybrid?
-
This is actually more like a traditional hard drive then an SSD. It is basically, a mechanical HD with a small (4gb) SSD attached for read/write caches.

So an SSD is still going to be a lot faster than this. The only time when a hybrid drive can compete is when it comes with enough SSD to install an OS and programs. The ones with small (16GB and below) amounts of SSD storage just can't compete with full SSDs.
-
Yeah, an SSD will still be faster. The only thing I noticed when I put the Momentus XT into my 13" MBP was less battery life (but that was to be expected). There was nothing overwhelming as far as performance
-
Yep, the startup times are sweet with an SSD and OS X. Buh bye beachballs!
-
thank you very much
500gb Hybrid SSD cheap, but is it any good?
