Hi everyone, I am looking to buy a new MBP, and I was wondering what your thoughts were on upgrading the hard drive from a 200gb 5400rpm to 7200rpm. Is it worth a extra 90 dollars?

I will be using the laptop for research and school stuff but also I would like to use it to play games using bootcamp and there will be a lot of photo editing using photoshop CS3 and converting and editing RAW files.

    thanks! :D

From what I have read, the faster hard drive will increase your performance all around. In games, loading times will be shorter.

FOr $90, definitely go for it, it is a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. I ordered a hitachi 200gb 7200 rpm hard drive for $190 for the same upgrade...you do the math.

At that size, you will see a performance increase, especially with Photoshop.

I have been doing some research and it appears the difference between 5400 and 7200 will be noticable in the beginning, when the disk is nearly empty, but as the drive will fill up with files, the difference will become smaller and smaller. Don't forget you'll also loose 50GB.

No, he is not losing 50GB he is comparing the two 200GB size drives at different speeds. Definitly go for the faster drive man, that is what I am going to do. It definitely will speed up your computing experience.

Go faster, and get an external drive when you are running short on room.
