hi,
i'm interested in getting a mouse for a mac computer, and was wondering at what to get.
i really prefer a mouse that doesn't require a driver.
edit: make that the best mouse that i can get for mac. that doesn't require a driver.
-
Hrm...I'm still going to have to say the VX Revolution (or the nano or the mx rev). It doesn't require you to install separate drivers or configuration programs, but some of the buttons won't work quite the way they were intended to, and you won't be able to customize it very much.
-
What features are you looking for in a mouse? Cordless? Bluetooth? Do you really want/need the extra buttons?
For US$14.95 or less you can get the very simple Logitech Optical Mouse. No drivers necessary. -
It does depend what you're looking for.
For example, the Logitech VX Revolution, in my opinion, is the best notebook mouse out there. I highly recommend it (would get it if I had money).
However, using the VX Revolution takes up a USB port for the transmitter/receiver. So you may want to take note of that.
And if you absolutely cannot stand losing a USB port, then you may want to consider a Bluetooth mouse, like the Logitech V270, for example. -
SaferSephiroth The calamity from within
Any disadvantages to Bluetooth mice? How is connectivity on those?
-
However, I have heard of reports that Bluetooth mice drain its battery faster than USB ones. -
sorry if this is very similar to the one before but i want something that doesn't require me to install driver. i actually need the extra back/forward button but doesn't want to install the driver. i want a very high quality build. preferably corded. i'm probably leaning to purchase another mx400. but do anyone know a better mouse?
anyone own a mighty mouse? i'm actually want to purchase that also, but don't know if it'll work without drivers. and heard that its trackball got some problem. is it true that just applying alcohol in the trackball fixes it? -
actually yes i'm also interested in vx revolution, ever since i can easily change the battery on that one
but is it true you need to turn it off after you finished using it for the day? when i reformat my computer, do i need to join the base to the mouse again? will it work during the reformat process? ah and of course i would like the option of installing it without the driver. can i pair the receiver to the mouse without the software driver installed?
-
Yeah, Apple is a master of design, but it doesn't do its mice that well. -
would the vx revolution be suitable for playing fps's like counter strike? i tried using a mouse with the mbp, but it was really choppy...is it because of the lack of drivers?
-
i've got the feeling that it is mac os x weaknesses. don't you realise that whenever your mouse move to a place where there are a lot of graphic activity, the mouse sometimes skips? this is a real pain when you need to trace an image in paintshop/illustrator...
funny thing is my lecturer (presumeably he only uses mac) don't even realise it -
hey how do you pair the vx revolution? does this require the use of the driver?
-
You just plug the dongle into your USB port and it'll work.
-
what? u serious? no pairing ever required? ever?!?! do the mouse work when reformating?
man, no driver, no pairing. wow, i'm nearly sold! -
I like the apple mighty mouse. I have both the wireless and wired versions and I have tried other mice but I keep going back to these. I don't miss the lack of buttons compared to other mice.
-
I'm thinking of replacing my Revolution actually...I banged it up too much, and now the left click button squeaks
...wonder if I can fix it
So now I'm either hoping I can wait it out for Logitech to come out with a new mouse (unlikely since they just released the Nano and Air), or buy another VX Revolution - or even the MX Rev since I don't carry my mouse around with me much anymore...
...ah, decisions, decisions....
however, it'll definitely be between those 3 - no contest. No other mouse on the market comes close. (not even the esteemed mighty mouse IMO)
-
the mighty mouse is a good concept, just poorly executed IMO. apple should have made the scroll wheel bigger and actually made 2 distinct buttons, rather than having them rely on touch. it also needs some back/forward buttons.
thus far, the vx revolution is by far my favrite mouse that I have used. -
yes, but the most important change that is badly badly needed is the addition of optical technology to read the ball!!! rather than using the old deeply miserably flawed mechanical scroll wheel technology, apple are you hearing this!?!!
ah, and also for the click button on the new logitech mouse (mx rev style) is somewhat prone to damage, my old notebook mouse is warranty returned because the click button got jammed, and now my new MX400 also seems to be suffering the same fate, although not quite jammed yet... what is wrong with logitech nowdays?
Edit: i was talking about the scroll ball at the top of the mouse. the 360 degress scrolling. -
Wait, I thought the Might Mouse had an optical sensor? I could have sworn it did...can anybody confirm this?
-
-
hey guys
i decided to get the VX Revolution! man are this thing comfortable or what!?
i'll let you know the performance in a sec...
-
jesus this thigs is sooo nice! no driver required! no lag
oh god! i'm in love! this is one of those rare feeling... last time i feel like this is probably when sudden step up from the olden days trackball mice to the lovely mx510. god, even the logitech G5 i just bought is not revolutionary than this! i mean... WOW! weighting are excellent when the battery is inserted. the mouse feels expensive looks good
unwire yourself, feel freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeweeeeeeeeee....
i'm sorry i rarely felt like that
oh, and i don't know why, but it glides heaaaaps better than my logitech G5!! its like ice skating!!! err... mouse skating! OMG i feel so freeee...
freeee as a bird... u know the song! -
Hehe, congrats wobble! Enjoy the new VX Revolution
.
-
thanks man, i will
the only gripe i have is that you have to turn it off after you're done with it. and o think that transceiver is on non-stop when it is plugged in to the notebook. anyone can confirm? or will it fall asleep after some time? because i'm storing this mouse until i get my new laptop
hey, sam, that vx revolution has just dropped in price recently. and damn this things tracks sooo smooth! incredible, i wasn't expecting this from a 800dpi mouse, let alone a wireless one. i suggest anyone who get one, get that sony refresh rechargable battery charger with the charger of course.
and those who ask that if the MX/VX revolution mouse is suitable for gaming or not. i don't game with my vx revolution, but i dont think the shape is suitable, and plus the scroll wheel is a bit too smooth (for gaming that is), even in "gear" mode. stick with G5 for gaming. -
The VX will turn off after some inactivity - well it's more like "sleep" - it'll wake up when you move it again.
It'll also automatically turn off when you slide the dongle into it and automatically turn on when you eject the dongle from the slot. -
Any particular reason to get the VX over the MX other than size? They both have small dongles.
I find the MX 10000000000 times more comfortable. -
Personally, I like the VX Revolution. Its just the right size for me. -
The main advantage of the VX is size and portability. The MX actually has more features (clutch - autochange mouse wheel modes, etc.) than the VX (although some people dislike it and prefer the VX because of it).
A good mouse for mac
