    Hi guys,

As you can see in my signature, my santa rosa MBP was stolen

I am planning on getting a new Penryn MBP, but I am a bit low on cash. So I am thinking of using my once-per-lifetime ADC student discount.

    A few questions:
    1. Do they need to verify my student status again when I place my order? or will it go through as long as I have ADC student membership? I am graduating this may, so depending on the answer to this question, I may wait till WWDC on the 9th of July to see if there's any update on the MBPs.

    2. From the ADC store, is it easy to exchange/return if my MBP arrives faulty? Looks like lots of people are getting poorly built MBPs recently?

    3. I have three copies of Leopard: one from my college, one from my ADC student membership, and another one will come with my new computer. Is it legal if I sell any of these leopard discs online? (I apparently don't need 3 copies of leopard)

    Thanks!

    1) I haven't placed an order using either a Student Discount or an ADC discount, so take this with a grain of salt. However, from what I understand, you need to confirm you status as a student in order to purchase an ADC account. After that, you're officially classified as a student. So you shouldn't have to reconfirm yourself as a student when making a hardware purchase (theoretically...).

I think you have to send in proof that you are a student before your account's 1 time discount is activated.

this is how it works, i just completed my student purchase:

    1. spend 99$ on the student membership.
    2. wait for them to send email asking for your current schedule to be faxed to them.
    3. once thats faxed it can take up to 1 week for them to verify it with your school, be patient.
    4. once they do, you should recieve an email stating you have been verified, blah blah blah.

i never recieved the email, so i made a phone call to the ADC. Things got sped a long a little after that.
i made my purchase on Mar 22, new MBP. it shipped from china Mar 26, i had it by Mar 30.

i would not recommend buying the membership just to get a normal Macbook. the savings just arent there.

    overall:
    new MBP: 1599$
    Membership: 99$

normal student pricing starts at 1799, so i saved an extra 100$ after paying the membership fee.

i also, like you will, recieved 10.5, and xcode tools in a nice box, along with an apple shirt....black with "i 'apple icon' code"

    good experience. great price.

So once you get verified, the 1 time hardware discount appears in your assets right ? and you can use it any time you want before your ADC membership expires, right ?

yes, but you only get one discount as a student, no matter how many times you purchase the 1yr membership.

    bummer.
