    Hey all,

I was able to create the Adhoc network on my computer. However, when I try to connect my WiFi device.. it is unable to obtain an IP address.

Is there any other things that I can do?

Note that my main computer (the one that is hooked up to the internet) is wired to my school's internet connection.

The school network is actually pretty strict. They require us to install a Cisco login program in order to access the network. But keep in mind, that I'm already logged in from my main computer and have no issues w/ the internet.

    Please advise!!

    Thanks!

    What is your Wifi device?

Did you disconnect from your school server?

If your adhoc is fishing for service like most do, and your school is the only one in reach, you are SOL. Need to find out what other wifi's are in area and how strong the signal is.

The Wifi device is my Droid X.

I'm using as a test device though. My ultimate goal is to tether my Xbox to my Mac.

I didn't disconnect from my school server since I'm relying on the school server to get access to the net.

Any other ideas? When I have time, I'm going to go over to the Windows side to test it out..

    Thanks for the reply though!

    Hey thanks for the link!

I got the tethering to work for my phone. But I still can't get it to work for my Xbox.

My Xbox, is apparently able to get an IP assigned to it.

However, when I run the full Network connection test, it'll bug out and say it can't get an IP.

The settings are all on auto. IP address, Subnet mask have all been given.

Any idea ideas? I tried manually entering an IP, subnet, and gateway. But.. no dice.

Again, I have no issues w/ tethering my phone (I turned of 3G to make sure I was running purely on WiFi). Maybe my school just blocked Xbox Live.

They tried that at my College residence, we collectively signed a petition to have the network restrictions removed and they didn't have much of a choice but to fold.

Regardless, none of the work-arounds work if they're using a packetshaper since those can detect 'gaming' from a mile away.
