I am new to Macs and have just started really doing research on these things. I've got someone offering to sell me an MBA 13.3" 2.13MHz with 2GB DDR3, 128GB SSD and the older Geforce 9400M GPU for $1200. Is this a fair price?

Unless it comes with some pricey software that you are also wanting, it sounds sort of high.
Take look here for the price of the current model, both new and Apple refurb., and decide whether the difference is worth it,factoring in that you are getting and older generation, much slower, no warranty, etc.

Thanks for the link SP Forsythe, in my searching I some how missed that. If i'm going to spend 1200, I might as well spend 1300 and get the most up to date version.
much appreciated -
Thats insanely high considering a brand new macbook pro is $1199 and with a student discount, $1095. refurbs are also that price.

Brand new Macbook Pro 13 is actually $999 at Microcenter for like a month now.
But the old Macbook Air is not teh same thing as the new one. Check out the differences in battery life, screen, body, etc.
$1200 is too much. I wouldn't buy an old one for more than a few hundred dollars depending on battery life wear. -
I wouldn't pay more than $950: Apple MacBook Air Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz SSD 13" Laptop - eBay (item 390281940456 end time Jan-24-11 11:50:18 PST)

I just checked and till the 30th, its actually $899.........!
edit: 899 for open box. -
Apple has them refurbed on their website frequently for less. And you get 1 year warranty.

Not to mention I wouldn't touch the older style MBA. Too many limitations; the new one is much better.
An MBA 13.3" 2.13MHz 128 SSD for $1200 good?
