Unless you need the extra portability of the MBP 13, you could've gotten a MBP 15 i5 for that much money.
-
Iv wanted a macbook pro for a long time, I will definetly get my hands on the 13 someday. I liked to browse threw the applestores when apple first transitioned over to pentium processors. Theres always all kinds of gadgets to buy with your apple stuff. You can take lessons to which looked cool even for people that like to DIY. Im waiting for the updates to come though next year with the macpro line. Hopefully ati 6xxx series would be cool!
-
Nah.. not really, and I can't justify paying for an i5 and 2 extra inches of screen (aware of the resolution) over an SSD and applecare
And this will most likely be my main rig for a few years.. maybe lets see what the new model XPS's look like
Hmm.. 6xxx huh, hopefully I might be able to sell my MBP for no less than $1,300.00 if that happens -
grats to an awesome laptop!
-
Apple care can be had for $105 shipped via ebay and a SSD via online seller may offer you a better price over-all and still retain a full three year warranty on that SSD
Nonetheless, nice setup you have there -
yeah.. I'm am getting the applecare from ebay $103.99
-
Definitely a sweet setup, C2D still has plenty of life left
-
C2D with a SSD in many many cases will seem like a faster computer than a i7 with a HDD.
-
Except Apple Factory SSD's suck compared to that of an OCZ, Intel, or even Corsair, especially at their cost, if you were going for speed.
-
they suck in max speeds compared to those faster SSDs yes... but they are still MUCH faster than a HDD
-
So I am in the apple store right now!!!!!
And i'm pretty much in love with the MBP 13, I picked it up and the overall balance of the weight is perfect.. much better than my Studio XPS 13
The screen is gorgeous!!!! knuf said
Fit and finish is very good
The webcam is so clear compared to my xps.. I was like .. Wow
No onto the cons:
This touchpad is kinda weird.. I wasn't aware that the touchpad was also a button.. that gonna take some getting used too!! especially since I been using windows for years.. and I am I right clicker.. facepalm ima missed that
This keyboard is gonna take some getting use too.. I don't know how to put it but compared to my XPS which has an almost perfect keyboard.. it seems stiff.. no that not the word. lets just say my hands felt free with my xps.. and the input imho was perfect.. compared to the MBP which feels as if a key can be push an extra 2-3 mm but it can't.. again that's something I have to get used to
When I open a window.. I like it fully maximize.. just like in windows, it seems that isnt the case with OS X .. I don't like the fact that I have to click the corner of the window and drag to maximize.. but maybe its a shortcut key or something I can change so I'm not gonna past judgement yet
And to be honest.. I know it aluminum but silver isn't my kinda color and I'm really dead set on sending this baby to colorware.. Black would look so cool !!![ -
You can set the right bottom corner of the touchpad to a the "right click" button. As for color, just get a black Speck case:
-
That's a very good point. An SSD is by far the most effective upgrade available.
-
you can turn on tap to click in the System Preferences. I only use the physical click when I'm clicking and dragging, like moving a window. You can click down with one finger at the bottom like its a button, the drag a different finger across to move things... works exactly like the bottom was a button. For any other click, i 1 finger tap to click, and 2 finger tap to right click.
not sure I understand... but I love these keyboards, its so easy to type on them. It might just be something much different than what your used to, but I took up with it within seconds, so much better than any other keyboard I had used before.
OSX doesn't have a maximize window function. It has a zoom button, which stretches the window automatically to fit everything thats being shown in it if it can... while thats nice for some things, its not good if that window is constantly changing content that need a different 'zoom' .... there are some 3rd party apps that change the green + zoom button into a standard maximize button.
Having to stretch and change window sizes from the bottom right corner is stupid... its one of the most stupid things they've kept ahold of, they need to make it where you can change it from any location on the edge.
Silver and black combo looks good... cuz of the screen and the keyboard. I have black around my palmrest and keybaord area, and the whole back of my display... doesn't void any warranty since they stick on... from Macstyles. No matter what you do with those though, its still going to be mostly silver.... and it takes a lot of patience to get them on right...
These aren't actual shots of mine, but its how I have it. -
Yet cost the same, if not more, why again? Oh apple care.... Intel SSD's have great warranties, I'd take my intel 160GB ssd over a sammy 256 any day of the week in my i7 macbook pro
-
Yes, the AppleCare for $105 on ebay is a great deal, only if you do not plan to sell your MBP later (within the 3 year time frame) & transfer the AppleCare warranty to another person.
Apple will require you to send them a copy of the AppleCare purchase receipt & this must be from an Apple authorized reseller.
I personally have been screwed this way when I sold my first unibody MB here at the MarketPlace last year.
I'll probably not go into details on that as I'm sure some of you long time NBR members will recall what I went through.
-
One of us... One of us...
Congrats on the new purchase! -
Your not serious are you?
This is probably one of the reason's I stayed away from apple.. I hope I don't get screwed -
From what I have read, Apple makes good laptops but the prices are sometimes ridiculously high for me.
-
you'll get used to it real quick.
-
i guess apple charge you a lot more for the SSD if you buy from them than purchase it seperately from newegg , IMO its a ripoff
-
Just pulled the trigger
I just ordered my Macbook Pro off of Amazon, along with a Timbuk2 Command Messenger Bag and a copy of home and student 2008.. eligible for 2011
Unfortunately.. I might have to wait on the SSD and 8GB memory upgrades..
Total savings is.. $108.98 versus me getting A bad deal through the apple store. Probably could have saved a couple hundred is I went the Ebay route but I wanted everything to be new
Tomorrow I'm going to the apple store to pic up a copy of Lojack -
Congrats on your purchase.
Another bites the dust.. I guess
