So after 20 years of exclusively using Windows (and DOS, aww the memories)
since Microsoft 3.0, and constantly bashing on apple, both before intel based machines (those hideous colored-clam shaped notebooks) and since craze began with their aluminum bodies, I finally decided to join the 'Dark Side' as I traded my Sony Vaio for a 13" c2d MBP.
I was worried about downgrading from the i5 in my notebook (even getting an i5 was annoying as my desktop has an i7), but the quick responsiveness of osX is pretty astonishing. Obviously apps are kind of slow at booting, compared to my windows based machines, but the over all functionality and interface of the operating system was pretty mind blowing.
I'll admit once I had the MBP in from of me I had a moment as I didn't know how to remove a DVD until someone pointed out the eject button on the upper right corner of the keyboard. After playing around for the last 6 hours, I finally feel comfortable navigating through os X learning the commands as needed.
OBVIOUSLY the trackpad is AMAZING scrolling, zooming, moving windows across the desktop, but I also got a magic mouse. It felt uncomfortable at first due to its narrow shape, and it doesn't glide across my wooden desk as well as other mice without a mousepad, but the multitouch controls are nifty.
I am 100% satisfied in my trade (a refurbed vaio $600 for a $800+ mbp) and have no absolutely no buyers remorse (which I did have after purchasing the vaio while waiting for it to arrive, and even once it did I liked it but was not in love with it [especially the ~2hour battery lifeand mediocre sound output]) Actually I would almost say the mac book is above average because it does get pretty loud for a laptop. I guess I just have high standards considering my room, office, and TV room have 5.1 systems.
TL;DR OMGMBPOWNSBBQ! Anybody even slightly entertaining the idea of purchasing one REALLY should. Any recommended apps or programs would be greatly appreciated![]()

I personally feel Windows is the "Dark Side".

Get an SSD. That way you can get to the infamous Mac OS X 10 second cold-boot.
I do the dark side and the other dark side.
Sun Microsystems was about to build this huge campus in Silicon Valley back in the 90s I think and then the dot-com crash hit. I wonder if Apple might be falling into something similar. Seems to happen when companies think that they own the world. -
What's so dark about Macs? They come in white and aluminum. Not much black on them, except maybe the keyboard on the MBP.
-
in all seriousness, it's dark because Apple likes to 'secure' there costumers in a small and tight box... So once by buy into apple you can't be turned away. It used to be really bad, but Apple has lightened up a little in the last few years, but lately that seem to want to get a firm grip again.
(and I own a MBP 15 and a few PC's). -

I really want to go with Apple too. But the only Mac that's worth buying in my eyes is the MBP 15'' with the Radeon 6750m! But it's $2000!!! Gah

true, but Apple is trying to secure OS X... iOS is already secure (that being said I still like my iPhone).

I can definitely see Apples attempt to secure os X, Jobs is already pushing towards a world run buy apps (i guess that misspelling can apply in this case lol) -
Apple is not trying to "lock down" OSX any more than Microsoft is trying to "lock down" Windows 8 by building a Windows App Store into it. -
