My wife wants a MBA, only stretched to 15" because she wants a larger display. Fudzilla claims that an ultrathin 15" (air-like) is in the works at the final testing stage. http://www.fudzilla.com/notebooks/item/24646-apple-reportedly-working-on-ultrathin-15-incher Does that mean soon? By CES? Never?
If there is already a thread on this, could you link please?

I am not sure if there was a dedicated thread about this but it has been discussed quite a bit. Essentially, much like any Apple product, nothing is truly known until Apple officially announces it. Until then, anything you read is simply based on rumor, conjecture, and "insider knowledge." So your guess is as good as anyone else's when it comes to Apple releasing something like this. They could do it by the end of the year, by the beginning of next year (approximately one year after the 2011 MBP's were introduced), the summer, or never at all.
I highly doubt Apple is going to do anything based on CES though. They have always done their own thing instead of participating in that. Either way, you just never know. This rumor cropped up earlier this year and I wouldn't be surprised if we keep seeing it until Apple actually releases large MBA-like Macs. It is hard to predict anything Apple does and this could very well be just like the rumors for the iPad and iPod touch in that, just about every year since 2005, rumors regarding a large screen iPod (and then starting in ~2007 for the iPad) kept coming up saying that one would be released that year. So a rumor about a large screened iPod came out in 2005 saying it would be released at Apple's annual iPod event. Nothing. Same rumor came up in 2006 and nothing. It wasn't until 2007 when the rumor was right but then again, if you keep guessing at something, it will be true after some amount of type. -
Thanks. A 15" Air would be perfect for her. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If they release a new thin design for the 15'', it will most likely happen when the new Ivy Bridge CPUs are launched early next year. Eearlier than that doesn't make much sense.
-
Ivybridge mobile units won't be released until April, 2012. CULV units probably later than that, if past is prologue. Hopefully, it won't be that long.

If this is true, what about specs.?
Do you think the i7 Quad and a good grapich card (such as current 15") take place? -

definitely somewhere between soon and never.
almost certainly eventually. -
15" MBA.. hmm, would it be fragile?
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
almost certainly probably not

I'll peek in my crystal ball as soon as I get it back from my friend. He's checking out the LG P330 at the moment.

if it comes I can't see is sooner than Ivy Bridge. and I doubt it will have a discrete GPU. I do think there is a good chance of seeing a Quad core... but depends how much intel gets the power draw down...

feb-march if Apple stick to their pattern.

Im probably going to change my 2011 mbp 13 for a new model, specially if there is a move to lighter and more energy conscious design. If not for the mbp 15, for the mba 13 -
if Apple releases 15 MBA, I don't think there will be space for a discrete GPU...
-
pretty sure they got something in store, i doubt it will be as powerful as 6770 today though.
Any idea of when the 15" ultrathin will be released?
