I know you can move 1st party icons using Apple+click, but is there a way to move other icons? I'd like to move my smcfancontrol icon to the right near my battery icon next to my clock!

    Thanks in advance!

I can move all Menu Bar icons with Open-Apple (Command) + Click-and-Drag, except for Spotlight. Did you already try this?

Open-Apple (Command)? If you mean the Apple button + click and drag, then yes. And smcfancontrol won't move, and neither will the Quicktunes icon.

-drag only works with OSX/Apple application icons (volume, date, Airport, Spaces, etc.) and not with 3rd-party applications. They'll also always appear to the right of your 3rd party icons. There should be a way to tweak this somewhere since I know Quicksilver gives you an option where you want the QS icon to be, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Alternatively, you could drag your battery icon as far left as it'll go and then drag your Clock directly to the right of the Battery icon. Then set your smcFanControl to be the first program that autostarts in System Preferences. Now, you'll always have smcFanControl to the left of your battery icon, which will be directly left of your Clock.

How do you change what loads first on bootup? Not seeing it in Preferences. Thanks again!

Maybe iSlayer is just better at coding for OSX or something...or the rest didn't bother with the feature....

To change login items, go to System Preferences -> User Accounts -> Login items.

The list is in the order they'll be loaded. Just drag them up and down.

You should be able to go into System Preferences > Sound and tick the box. Otherwise go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ and double-click Volume.menu.

Call me useless, but you can't drag them, only highlight them?

Well, you can drag them (just hold and drag to the side a bit before moving up and down), except you can only really drag downwards....

But in any case, I played around with it a bit, and it turns out the order you place them in doesn't stick - I guess my apps coming out in the order on the menu bar was just a lucky coincidence? So I guess ignore the advice about rearranging that list. I should've double-checked more thoroughly.

On the other hand, smcfancontrol always turns out to be the right-most non-OSX app no matter how I set it...so you could still -drag your battery and clock icons near it probably.

For me, smcfancontrol is the leftest icon, and I can't move it. I have, from right to left: Spotlight, battery, time, sound, BT, Wifi, Quicktunes, smcfancontrol. I'd like smcfancontrol to be in between Spotlight and battery. I guess you can't do it currently (weirdly...seems like a simple thing....). :(
