Any way to run VLC not as an image and just as a normal app?

Adium gave me that option during installation or something, don't remember. Not that VLC running as an image means anything besides that I have an icon on the desktop, but I'm just wondering.

You need to drag-and-drop (copy) VLC to your Applications folder. See this guide for more information.

From the Mac Switcher's Guide [Sticky]:
If you're still confused watch this Install Firefox for Mac video. It's pretty much this same process for most applications, but the guy's voice in that video is annoying, I think ;).

There are two things that I find illogical in OS X.
    This is one.
There are to many variables in the installaton process.

Is it a .dmg. yes. then mount.
Is it an application/ folder with application/ .pkg/
then: drag to target folder/ ditto/ double click

Ok installation should be finished, then unmount, and delete .dmg.

It's not really complicated, but it's not really simple either.
the mount/unmount stuff really doesn't add to user friendliness and deviates from most other features in Apple software. Program installation is(usually) easier on Win (let's not mention Win UNinstallation though). (nicest of all on Ubuntu)
