Yes, the MB prices at your school are still great. :) The prices I listed from my school are before 8.25% taxes.

I'm considering a more portable 17 incher for UNI. Might wait until the end of the year, sell off my M1730 before GT212 and mobile i7 turns up.

If next gen Macbook pro has similar battery life, and slightly better GPU, then I'll be glad to get it.

Avoiding the sales tax is probably one of the best things about living in NH, OR, or Delaware (DE?), plus the other tax-free states :p

Not sure about the others but in N.H. the no sales tax thing seems great until it's time to pay your property taxes.

Try a few years in New Jersey. You will scamper back to N.H. post haste.

    I want a Macbook Pro

    SO bad.

Except now that I hear about the release of an update in July and a serious update in October, I just wanna wait. Unfortunately, I have an ASUS piece of that is completely useless for any serious music production (ty design which s up any FW expresscards or FW ports when doing low-latency audio - ASUS can blow me).

Part of me wants to buy a Macbook Pro RIGHT NOW and sell it+upgrade when the October update is released...but that seems like such a waste of money...

Any idea what the October update is going to consist of? And if its for sure coming in October or just rumored to be in that quarter?

Mobile i7 won't be ready for Oct, so I question how significant any update really will be.

When they get around to putting quad cores into macs or just the macbook pro I'm assuming, would this increase the price also? And are you suggesting this might happen this coming October?

Based on my research it's likely to happen (potentially as an option?)

At this point it can only be speculation

They probably won't release any big laptop upgrades then, BUT if you buy after June you will get snow leopard as opposed to just leopard. Worth waiting for imo.

You think there will be quad core this summer or bigger updates than just software?

There will always be new things coming up if you wait... but then you'd never buy a notebook. The chances of quad core are slim due to high thermal envelope.

Yup, you can always wait for the latest and greatest, but then you would be waiting for ever.

I am planning to buy a macbook pro for university in the fall so I am going to wait at least until the end of august. I have my Hp pavilion for now so I can wait.

and I am also hopping that they will release snow leopard before school starts!

LOL. Fortunately/unfortunately, I don't own property still renting but yes. Where I live in NH the rent is artifically inflated anyway...
