Aside from the 128-256mb update I cant find any real reason to return even though im well within the time frame. If you were me would you take the restocking hit to get teh 256 8600 GT or will I be good to go with teh 128?

I'd rather put the money towards 4 GB RAM

It really depends on your needs. If you plan on gaming, then, yes, do it. Otherwise, put the money towards the 4gb RAM and you wouldnt be able to notice the extra 0.2 ghz.

I game on my XPS. Would it effect light video editing or general creative stuff?

Right now, no. But one advantage of Penryn is that it has SSE4 capabilities, which will produce huge speed improvements when applications start to make use of it. But I would say the speed is good enough as is.

Gaming right now is fine on the 128mb 8600.

And if you plan to do most gaming on another pc then I wouldnt worry about it.

If you already have a gaming PC then I'd say no. You'd save money upgrading the RAM rather than restocking, and get a more noticable performance increase on every-day tasks. It shouldn't effect video editing unless you fancy rendering things in 3D. General 2D creative things, along with music shouldn't be effected either.

When and where did you buy it? I believe when Apple releases a revision if you bought it from the Apple Store you have 14 days to return it without the restocking fee.

Yeah I got it at Apple store. I guess I can return it...its been 6 days. The thing is I've got it all set up, software wise, warranty, etc...it seems like more pain than its worth.

But I think you have that voice in the back of your head saying "upgrade...upgrade...upgrade" Honestly, though, if i didnt have to pay the restcoking fee I would go with the upgrade.

I would just keep it. Like you said, the restocking fee could be used for something else :).

No, you have two slots, so you'll need to take out the existing RAM (I believe its 2x1 GB, I'm not sure) and put in your own 2x2 GB RAM.

swapped it for the Penryn...ohh yeah. I was only 5 days with it....so they swapped it out.

3MB cache though, the 6mb is the 2499 which is overkill for me.

Im happy I did it though....few updates, and why not?

    Loving it.

Well you could of also went the route of returning it for a refund and getting the same one you already had from Amazon for $600+ less than what you paid originally but that's just another option. Right now you can get the 2.2Ghz MBP for $1602.17 - $150 amazon rebate - 3% cashback on an Amazon Visa or similar cashback credit card once you do the little Amazon Gold box trick to get the extra 5% or so off. Comes out to be to be a little more than $1400 with free shipping and no tax. I've also got about $250 in Amazon gift certs so I can get one for like $1150.
