    I returned the retina 15 macbook pro for the anti glare. I could upgrade the ram myself right?

    Any DDR3 SODIMM will do, although Apple recommends 1600MHz memory for the mid-2012 MBP. Whether it's DDR3 or DDR3L doesnt matter.

    As far as brands, see this post. If you have a 2012 machine, you'll want 1600 MHz DDR3 for best performance, as too456 said. More often than not, Newegg will put the stuff on sale either with a promo code or as part of a Shell Shocker deal. Check their site daily.
