I just downloaded it this morning. It seems faster than Safari, buts it's not as secure. Better do your banking and the like on Safari. The free WiFi at work is very temperamental with Safari. I'm hoping Opera works better.

I don't like it at all personally, especially the huge Opera bar across the top that you can't remove unless you go into fullscreen mode. Whose bone-head idea was that?? The screen is already cramped enough, let's put ANOTHER bar on top to take up even more room!
I much prefer Mobile Safari's way of handling multiple webpages, and now in order to sync bookmarks I have to install Opera on my Mac? Screw that! This is of absolutely no use to me. -
I deleted it already. I can see why it was approved. It's no threat to safari. Too bad
-
Looks interesting, I'll have a closer look at it if it doesn't cost too much.

and the zooming in sucks too
-
I've been testing it since yesterday. I actually like the zooming better, its just one touch to zoom the text to the right scale and I do think it loads faster, but some websites arent formatted the same as Safari so they don't look quite right on Opera. Still, its nice to have some competition out there. Shame it took Apple so long to approve it.
-
I get it now, Apple does allow apps that "duplicate" it's own, as long as they're really bad. I guess Opera had to make their browser really bad to get it approved, so it makes safari look good.

Yeah Safari is bad. Opera is worse. It renders faster for sure, but the panning and zooming was a bit too sensitive for me.

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
I cant say anything for the iphone version but im loving it on my Motorola Milestone on Android. The milestone browser was just as fast as mobile safari but i like the load times of Opera. Only thing they need to fix is a couple of bugs with the scrolling. Sometimes it will refuse to scroll out but other than that its amazing.

After having had more time with, I'd agree the Opera Bar and the zooming, wasn't quite what I wanted, but pages definitely loaded faster. Hopefully they'll listen to people like us and make it better.
-
I had it installed for about all of 5 minutes.. 3 or 4 of the web pages I go to all the time were just having weird rendering issues.
I'd like to know why the Safari hate? I have never had any problems at all with Safari on my phone. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
some weird bugs with opera, but it isn't that bad against safari. definitely different.

tabbed browsing is enough to make me want to keep this app, its not nearly as bad as its being made out to be. And definitely a step in the right direction. Security however I do agree in questioning. Save online banking and whatnot for Safari.
-
Also Toggle the Fullscreen mode to remove the OPERA bar.
-
I can boot up my SSD-based laptop and tether and surf quicker than I can iPhone-type + Safari can render pages. -
And as far as email it really depends how you need to use it, for business at least it would suck to have to type long emails.. I only use email on my iPhone to reply with short 1 or 2 sentence responses, anything longer and I need a laptop. -
I have no problems using Mobile Safari, nor have I ever considered it an "unpleasant" experience. I don't understand the hate either.
If anything, Opera gave me the unpleasant experience. It's a mobile screen with limited real estate, yet someone in their infinite wisdom decided to put ANOTHER bar on the screen? Granted, you can get rid of it by going full screen, however that requires extra steps and is very counter intuitive. -
Yeah I never understood why mobile browsers take up more room with their stupid bars at the top.
Anyway, what I like about Opera is that it renders pages super fast when scrolling. Other than that I noticed that it doesn't render pages correctly.
Anyone else try Opera on the iPhone?
