What do you consider overheating? I've had mine on my lap learning Mac things (first Mac), and it's barely warm...been on and working/surfing/exploring for about 2 hours. 2.8ghz, 250g 7200 rpm drive, 4g RAM...
Contrast this with my XPS 1710 and I'd already be sweating, it would be so hot on my lap... -
are you talking about the new ones?
my is usually around 60 while browsing internet, skype, itunes and chat
around 50 when idle
have you installed smcontrol? i would recommend it so you can crank up the fan speed when you need it -
Thats not over heating lol.
-
You have WoW running.......
-
Yep looks like normal temperatures to me!
-
WoW running constitutes a 90 degree CPU/GPU?!
-
Maybe invest in a notebook cooler. That's what I'll be doing if I find my soon-to-be-delivered MBP too hot.
-
That temp is right for a mbp running a 3d game.
-
Is that 90 degrees in C or F? 90C = 194F...that's feelable.
-
That's about what mine looked like when I was playing cod4. Oh I think overheating is when the notebook gets so hot that it forces itself to shutdown (or downclocking).
-
GPU is more than fine, CPU seems too high though. Maybe try undervolting it.
-
Seems like every other post, someones suggesting undervolting. -
The temperature of your cpu and gpu are really fine and you shouldn't worry. My macbook cpu gets up to 90 celsius when i game. If you want some lower temps get a notebook cooling pad. Or remove the heatsink and thermal compund, and then throw some AS5 on there. I'm temped to do this with my macbook.
-
Mine also has this weird issue with the sleep light. The whole sleep light is visible but 1/3 of it is still covered by the metal finish so it bleeds through. I'll get a pick when I can but any suggestions? I think I should send this back after I time machine the mac.
-
-
Those temps are fine, and the posted temperatures are posted in degress Celsius for the poster that asked before.
-
Are there under-volting apps for mac? all I could was a app called "coolbook" and I don't even know if it supports new macbooks.
-
-
Now it seems like its coming up really really often. Just a weird thing I noticed. -
People who have done it are so enthusiast about it they can't understand people are not doing it. Like me.
A free way to enhance battery life, lower temperatures, lower stress on other parts while keeping the same performance. Who wouldn't want that.
Unfortunately Coolbook costs $10, but undervolting is free in windows. -
just cranks up the fans a little bit, very easy fix. i run mine at 2300rpm and my heat is between 45-50C unless doing something stressful.
-
anyone got this issue with the sleep light bleed?

yikes, thats warm. i'm idle b/w 40 and 45.
-
yeah, it also depends on your room temperature..
-

... i never said it didn't? it's not like i sit in an igloo.
-
i was not referring to your post.. just saying in general..

sorry for jumping the gun

Here's an SS without any sort of intensive program running. ***?
Still 80 degrees. This is an official overheat. This is with non instensive ****, now this is garbage;

It's CTO so I can't even return it! I don't wnat no garbage genius at the AppleStore touching my stuff! I'm more qualified than him. -
-
I love the "non-heat" factor of my new MAC!!! Life is good
-
just get SMCFanControl
-
-
yes i'm sure guys. I have been doing computers for a long time. I've been building for 10 years i'm 21 nearly. I am not here to dick you guys around. I want you guys to know that ignorance is not bliss, this hsould be stickied. There is no heavy background usage at all. i remember installing xcode tools took over an hour, and some other things took a LONG time. this is smellign defective to me.

Which again, is a problem from the notebook. I have never had this much of a problem with an IP DD laptop
-
if you think there is a problem with your computer, take it up with the manufacturer, and do a little research.
i'm not sure what the point of this thread is. -

Sounds like someone needs to make a date with a Genius.
-
Sounds like you need to shut up and realize that I'm more qualified to fix these things and I refuse to let someone who doesn't know as much as me to touch my laptop. I don't trust them. I want this fixed. And being an Apple fanboy doesn't help anyone taking you seriously circa86, seriously.
-
-
AGAIN:
Why haven't you installed SMCFanControl and cranked up the fans to 6200rpm??
don't you want to fix it? then do it! -
fastrandstrongr Notebook Evangelist
Haha, let him be an idiot. He's more qualified to fix it, so thats why he's on these forums asking for help (also known as hypocrisy).
Good luck prying open the unibody case and replacing your logic board, processor or fans and voiding your warranty. Apple can replace your computer if its messed up, ergo the visit to a Genius Bar to set the wheels in motion. Go drive off a cliff. I was only trying to help. -
Lol @ being afraid of technicians not knowing more than you
-
and how do you know that you are more qualified that them?
-
Because I can't open my case without voiding the warranty. And trust me I can open it if I wanted to because I"ve built much more exotic systems. I have a 24/7 watercooled desktop, which requires more maintenance and skill/craftsmanship with computer hardware than disassembling a macbook would ever take. The bottom line is I shouldn't have to crank my fans to 6000 RPM while I"m doing trivial things, becuase it shouldn't get that hot. I've booked an appointment with a genius to get my stuff replaced. To think this is a minor error and some fan control thing should be used at 6000 RPM just for trivial tasks is inconceivable.
Fan speed adjustment shouldn't be required by me. The notebook should understand this. Needless to say i've got an overheating and poorly built macbook. THis is not fun. -

If your fans arn't spinning, get smcfancontrol.
honestly, people are just trying to help. It kinda looks like you have a defective laptop. Either phone up apple, or take it to a authorized service centre for them t posibly fix it. If you dont like that, exchange it for a new one.
You probably cant fix it yourself. You dont have the spare parts, and if you wanted to do it, try to get certified as an apple tech so you can do it without voiding the warrenty. -
I am no Apple fanboy and I would have told you to perhaps check the laptop at an apple store, as there is something strange.
The "do a little research" might have offended you, i get that, but then you show who the smart one is in your reply, and you did not.
Anyone elses MacBook Pro overheating?
