Man I've been out of the Wow scene for a good 2 years now and stopped playing once I reached the level 30. But I guess these days I'm itching to play wow again. I want to reach level 70 and to you guys think its worth playing again??
I guess another thing is that I want to play it on the mac pro![]()

If you have nothing better to do with your time, then by all means, play WoW natively on your Mac. It has the largest online community after all. You will be able to meet plenty of strange people.
-
Personally I don't think it's worth all the wasted time... I think I hit level 45, then had to stop playing because I went away on a cruise and then a vball tournament in europe right after that, so was basically unplugged for almost a month. That made me rethink a lot of things I was wasting my time on. WoW was probably the top one.
-
Yeah, I traded in the MBP for the Air just so I can get away from the game.. I mean I can technically still play pre 60 without much problems however since i have several 70's it's a great deterrent! RUN!!! hehe
-
WoW is fine so long as you don't let it get out of hand. If you play a couple hours here and there then it's a fun hobby to have. It is, however, very easy to sit down and play that game all day. I honestly wouldn't consider picking it up if you're in school or plan to work on a computer capable of playing it. In high school I played wow super competitively in a top guild for about a year. Let me tell you right now that it is not worth it.
You can run WoW in OSx BUT at least from my experience it runs rather poorly (this might have been fixed) in comparison to how it does in windows. -
I play WoW on my laptop, works well. But if anything, best to play casually, otherwise its a very big time drain.
Even playing it casually it still can take a lot of time. But for your money it is a cheap form of entertainment. Just take it in moderation... as should be done for most things in life. -
I have two 70s, but have stopped playing. Just too much of a time sink for me - I enjoy the game (and MMOs in general), but I was starting to miss out on too much of the rest of my life. Don't let it become too big for you.
-
it runs perfectly on OS X... Just best if you have a dedicated GPU as the Integrated ones always suffer.
on the 128Mb 8600 I out-performed all my wintard friends
-
Wow (no pun intended) I'm quite surprised at the level of maturity here. I was expecting people to criticise me on my posting of "If you have nothing better to do with your time", and then write long essays berating the excellence of arguably the most successful computer game in history.
But yeah, from my personal experience I can tell you that playing WoW is not worth it.
!!!WARNING: THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH CONTAINS BORING PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!
When I first entered university, I had a friend who was casual gamer on my course. At the end of the first year, he even achieved better results than I did. However, he had become addicted to WoW since then, and as a result failed 7 out of 9 modules in his second year (whereas I failed none). At Imperial College, failing that many modules means you're properly f****d beyond reality.
!!!END BORING PARAGRAPH!!!
So yeah, that is one person's future ruined where WoW was used as the key instrument. -
I've sank a good 20 days of play time into it the since January. 60-70 is the hardest part, it takes soooooo looong. everyone here in the dorms just got into it, so the place feels deserted most of the time.
-
Whoa~ that makes me wanting to play wow even more!!
-
An important note. World of Warcraft and girlfriends are not compatible. You get to choose one or the other, not both.
In a weird twist... I lost a girlfriend to WoW, but not because I played (I've never played it), but because she did. She went to New Jersey to bang the guy that ran her guild, then moved to another state to bang another head of the guild.
I used to be into Medal of Honor, but damn, it was never like that. I was involved with a clan, but the only days I was on it for 12 hours was on scheduled days we had to compete against other clans... And that was once every two months or so.
So a life lesson in this post. Keep you and your significant other away from WoW. -
heh, prostituting herself for guild status! ftw.. lol
-
Man this thread's gone way past the subject, lol. I usually dont play games no longer than 2 hours a day and wow wouldnt be an exception. Probably 2 hours a day so it would take forever for me to finish it I guess. Either way I'm probably not going to play again, I just got too many other stuff (real world) to do.
-
hahah, indeed!! sucks for modly though! I don't mean to pry, (or hijack the thread) but how did you find out what she was doing man?!
-
"World of Warcraft" and "finish it" cannot be used in the same sentence/post/thought. There is a multi-million dollar company whose primary goal is to ensure that the game can never be "finished."
BTW, WoW is a very scalable game and can run somewhat passably (~15-20 fps) on even a MacBook ... er, so I've heard from a, uh, friend ... -
Well pretty much to finishing the game is just to reach level 70 and be done with it.
-
Some people consider the game to just be starting at 70. There's an enormous amount of 70 content, not even counting PvP. But if you have the willpower to stop playing the second you ding 70, then more power to you. Keep in mind that it's not like the second you ding 70, you've completed every quest, seen every dungeon, killed every kind of monster, and done every fun/random thing there is to do in the game world. There are multiple classes, races, sides (horde or alliance) to play as well. Plus, the next expansion (Wrath of the Lich King) is due to come out before you'd reach 70 with casual play which will raise the level cap to 80.
-
She told me she was leaving me for the WoW Guild leader, and that was pretty much it. I'm dumb enough to still talk to her, and I got to hear about the rest of her adventures.
-
Whoa~ its weiird.. all my g/f's never were into gaming.. they were all pink loving, clothes shopping and oh my god types that loved prada...
-
Yes, well.. those types of girls don't date guys that drive a hearse...
-
You'd be surprised...
-
My sister plays.. goaded into it by her husband (a developer for Bioware).
Now she's got me playing again.
*sigh* -
I played it on my year old MacBook Black w/o problems (I had to reduce some eye candy) but overall, it worked well.
-
Some time ago there was a documentary on television about game addiction. Keith Bakker (Dutch guy who had been living in the US for a long time and who was addicted to alcohol and cocaine), started a clinique for addictions.
Game addication is one of the addictions they treat.
He said that game companies want people to get addicted, which makes sense as the higher the rate of addicts, the more money they make.
If you are addicted, just destroy your game dvds and go on holiday
-
Yeah, it's still worth playing. I compared FPS between the XP and OS X version, I get the same in either. But the OS X version has built in video recording, better quality than FRAPS!
That said, I still like to play it. I got a few new friends into, moved to the horde recently (after taking an 8 month hiatus from my prot pally) and love it. Only thing I hate... I worked on a hunter and pally on a pve server. Got them to 50 and then was like... we need to switch servers since they're 3 hours behind and I can't raid with them. But can you take your pve toons to a pvp server? NOOOOO
Biggest problem now, is people don't run many dungeons. Since blizz has upped the xp gain from quests and lowered the amount of xp needed per level, its hard to get groups together. It's also made it so most 70's don't know how to play at all. Then blizz decides to make it even easier to do heroics. So now you end up in heroic groups with people who've maybe gone through 1-2 times on normal. Not a smart idea...
BTW... Horde on Bloodscalp! -
yeah my favorite is a pally... and least fav a rogue...
although I think that's cause I was dagger spec... when we all know rogues should be sword spec'd
-
Pallys suck at leveling unless your ret. Some have said prot pallies grind very well. But man... I hated doing the 60-70 grind. They're so bloody gear dependent, unless you have excellent gear, it takes a while to take down mobs. Then again, when I was leveling my pally, I didn't have a ton of agi gear. My new BELF pally had a lot of agi gear and rips through mobs, until his gear just got too old.
But good lord are hunters OP as all hell. So much fun to play, but oh so OP'd.
I never bothered playing a rogue, but we all know rogues should a) be tank spec and b) be kitty spec :-D
Yeah... pre-bc... we'd go through strat with my friend as a rogue... tanking and me as a holy pally healing him. was fun :-D Plus his kitty claws made a hell of a sight :-D -
ATM I'm playing on a private server.... It's fun, I went from 1-65 last night, going for 255 tonight (Yes the lvl cap is 255 on this one).
-
lol... I've wanted to play on a private server for a while. Thought of making one and having my friends all join in.
Just have to be sure to use a separate install than my real one. Don't want the Warden to see that I've been on a non official server.
Would be fun to play all 3 specs.. at once. Though honestly, I think power leveling that quickly, and getting to tier 6 and waht not would get kind of boring. It's too close to god mode. -
I've played WoW on my MBP for some time. For the past 2 months though I haven't touched WoW at all. I think I'm at level 35 or something. Eventually when time permits I'll start it back up. This summer might yield some time off to catch up in the WoW community... I hope.
Anyone here play Wow on their mac??
