Can I get Apple Care for my MBP at any time during the 1st year of ownership? My warranty gives out in August, so I want to consider one of two options here:

    • Sell my current MBP to get an updated one
    • Keep existing MBP and get Apple Care

I'm actually considering selling my MBP and going for a MB though. It turns out my usage patterns with the MBP don't use it to its fullest potential, and I could save some desk space by going down in size, as well as being slightly more mobile with a smaller laptop. Plus, the keyboard on the MB and the black casing fits my style.

You HAVE to purchase Apple Care during your first year of ownership. Once that year passes, it's gone and you can no longer purchase Apple Care for it, ever.

if I were in your shoes, I would keep the one you got. If it does more than what you want it to do, then why waste money on a new one? I would at least hold out until they come out with a real significant change before buying a brand new one and losing money.

Theres always a 3rd alternetive. I bought a brand new white Macbook two months ago from Apple, because at the time it was all I could afford. Now I am ahead a bit, we could always do a swap and I could add some cash your way ;). Apple Care for it is only half the price and you still have 10 months to get it.

Agreed, I think the OP is just looking for an excuse to get rid of his MBP. You're not gonna save much desk space going from a 15" MBP to 13" MB. Get the Applecare for the current system, it will last longer in terms of future-proofing and have a higher resale value later than the MB.

LOL, I was just thinking that I could recover some money from it after realizing I wasn't using it to its fullest potential. But your right, I'll save myself some time and energy with sticking with the MBP and getting Apple Care.

Maybe when Apple decides to make a tablet Mac I'll be switching....
