Here’s my dilemma. If I buy a new MacBook Pro 15.4” this week. It’s $708 dollars I don’t have to pay at tax time. ($1770 * .4) But I don’t really want the 15.4”, I want a 17”. Which may or may not be announced at MacWorld exactly 7 days from today.

Now I need a new computer. But I don’t need one so badly that I can’t wait 2-3 weeks for one. Especially if the problems that kept it from coming out were a better GPU and 8gig support. And buying a 17” would always be good for next years taxes. Unless I quit being an IC in 2009, which, in this economy, is always possible.

But then what if they don’t come out with a 17” in a week. Then I end up buying a 15.4” anyway. And I don’t get my tax money for this year.

It would really be helpful if Apple could tell me what’s going on…

Thanks for listening to my Rant. You can now go back to your regularly scheduled forums posts.

    lol @ title...

Seriously though, you might as well just get the 15.4" and maybe add an external monitor plus more ram by yourself.

$708?!?! I would buy that sucker - unless that's a typo and it should be 1708 then... always buy what you need balanced with what you can afford vs. what you want. Yes, I'm being sanctimonious!

$708 is the total amount of taxes, the laptop costs $1,770.

It would be $1770 for the computer from Amazon. It would be a $708 back to me at tax time. So the lappy would be $1062 net of tax. I probably will just buy it. The tax deals are just to good this year with the Economic stimulus package they passed this year. I don't believe it's going to be that good next year.

Plus... I'm thinking that a new 17" will run about $800 more then the 15.4". So that's $1500 I could spend on upgrading my Windows gaming computer next year, or goes toward buying some 24" ACDs.

I see someone edited my thread title. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Thanks again for listening to my rant.

so really, it costs you about $1000 for a new macbook pro.

    i couldn't pass that up.

the 17" macbook pro won't get a better gpu than the 15". at least, it NEVER has... so if the past is any indication of the future, you are out of luck there.

I don't know that I was personally offended, but we do try to keep things PG around here, for the kids.
