I am considering buying the Apple Macbook MB and I am new to lap tops use but this model seems to fit my criteria. It is mid range in price and the quality of Apple is unsurpassed.
I want to use this laptop wireless and I am not sure what I need to do that. For instance. I travel a lot in buses and cars and I want to use my lap top there, what do I have to do to make that happen? I also want to go up in my bedroom where it is warm in the winter and not have to plug in anywhere and just start up wireless. I imagine the hardware/software I needed for the bus and car would work there as well as doctor offices. I am handicapped and spend a lot of time waiting in doctor offices and I want to go wireless there too. Help! I need to know the answer before I buy it.

Basically, you will be able to get on the internet anywhere there is a wifi network. Without that, you can't just get on the internet. This is the same for all laptops -- apple or otherwise.

About going without plugging in, you can estimate about 3 hours (more or less) of battery time. That's true on the bus, in the doctor's office and in your bedroom.

If you want internet in your bedroom, you will need a wireless router to set up a wifi network for your home (unless there is a network cable in your bedroom).

It sounds like you might need to so some googling and read up on wirless (wifi).

It may be difficult to get wifi connection on a bus though... since a bus is a moving object and you'll be out of the wireless zone in a matter of seconds

But yea, I agree with the person above. Do some researching on wifi.

Don't ISP provide services for your laptop (I don't know what it's called) where you plug in their internet thing through a USB port and you connect with it?

Wifi clearly isn't what this fellow is looking for if he or she is trying to use the internet on buses and the such. He's looking for a WWAN, WiMax and the such. (Don't quote me if I'm wrong, I don't know a lot about this - I just know you stick a SIM card into the laptop) Essentially these come from your cellular provider. Wherever you can have cellphone reception/ access you will have internet access.

Unfortunately no Macs offer this option, I think (unless you call the iPhone a Apple laptop/"netbook", but that's a stretch). Again, don't quote me on this, but you may get away with sticking in one of those expresscard adapters to use the cellular networks.

Are we talking about the same thing? My friend has one of those things from Verizon wireless and it plugs into the USB. Can't Macs use it too?

Yeah Mac's can use the USB internet dongles, only if it is compatible. It should say wether it is compatible or not on the dongle box.

I don't know. You said ISP, which is an acronym for "Internet Service Provider"...Verizon is one of the companies that happen to be both an ISP and a cellular network provider.
