Preview of 10.7 Lion, and the tagline "Back To The Mac"
From Macworld.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
-
I'm psyched. It's been a while as far as any big announcements regarding the Mac side of things.
-
Seems like the past year has been all iphone news. Wonder what 10.7 is going to be like.
-
lion... great... gonna have a buncha new Mac jokes...
lion.. lying... you know... -
Apple is going to have to create it's own breed of cats so they have more to name their OS's after.
-
I'm eagerly awaiting what changes Apple has in store for OS X. I really like how clean and simple OS X is, and I'm a Windows person! Anyway, my wish-list for the next iteration of OS X (or OS XI should Apple really surprise us):
1. It would be great if an OS had an instant-on ability from the get-go rather than rely on 3rd party tools to provide this (such as Jolly Cloud).
2. More seamless integration with sync'ing stuff to the cloud. I'm talking about the ability to have all applications to sync stuff to the cloud, instead of just Apple's own stuff with Mobile Me.
3. Support in OS X for SSD drives that use TRIM. Apple's late to the game with this. Very late.
4. Apple should replace Finder with Path Finder. Seriously, Apple needs to beef up Finder big time. -
Hopefully they'll get with 10 years ago and make gui themes possible and built in.
-
-
Will be interesting to see though where/how they make changes to an already great OS....... -
10.2 was Jaguar -
I can imagine the commercials if they named it Cougar.
I'm hoping to have some integration with iOS like being able to use apps in OS X.
-
They should just include native NTFS support.
-
Puma
Jaguar
Panther
Tiger
Leopard
Snow Leopard
Lion
Have all been used, But I guess they only need 2 more names. -
-
-
10.7 really !!!
UPS just dropped off my MBP a few four hours ago.. is the upgrade free? -
-
How about Liger? Tiglion?
Or if they drop a netbook they can name it Toyger, cause its small like a domestic cat, but performs like a big cat. meoowwwwwww. The aluminum bodies will be replaced by either catnip, yarn, or toyger skin.
Alternate jokes... They can release a kids netbook with Meowth (or any other cat pokemon, which i googled earlier) -
I hope they drop a netbook on us, but thats wishful thinking, since iPad is still strong in the "netbook" category. lol.
-
to do this they would have to pay a license fee for every Mac to Microsoft... this means the price would have to be added into the OS price. I don't want to pay MS for a license to use some stupid file system I'll never use. -
-
How come nobody mentioned OS X Liger? -
Why, I din't even know this was coming. I just bought my Macbook Pro 13 last night. Do you think the Macbook Pro 13 will get i3? Thats the only reason I'd sell my Macbook.
-
Sabertooth?
-
yah, anyone know if there is new hardware? I'm considering a MBP 15 right now.
-
There's probably others besides this.
I can't see MSFT supporting HFS+ directly. For one, it's currently a minority format. For another, Apple likely wouldn't allow it.
It makes more sense for Apple to support NTFS since it is a majority format. It would increase Mac sales as embracing bootcamp did. Microsoft may not charge a licensing fee or if anything, a very small fee. Apple supporting NTFS only serves to benefit MSFT as it would translate into more awareness and sales of Windows. -
-
you know with the Lion there... they could make it all about the new iPad... and say... we were *lion* about "back to the Mac"
-
I mean.. unless jobs is unveiling a new product.. netbook would be cool. What else do they have for the time being.. if it is 10.7 that's big enough!!!
What.. an white Iphone, I3 for MBP 13 (i'm gonna be pissed) -
I'm not expecting any major hardware upgrades at this event. If there is a touchscreen iMac in the works I think it would be introduced at the launch of the new OS.
-
Currently I use a freeware app that affords non-native NTFS support in OS X. Is someone else paying the licensing fee and donating it to me?
I understand that Tuxera (ntfs-3g) licenses their driver, which is independent of Microsoft's license. I'm sure that Apple is at least as inventive as they, or worst case could license from Tuxera for a pittance per user. Heck, just buy the company (Tuxera).
Apple could offer NTFS support for a infinitesimal cost per user. I'd certainly pay a nickel. LOL -
I don't think MS charges... as Ubuntu has not trouble reading and writing to my NTFS data disk.
-
3rd party open source projects based in certain countries can get away with doing things that a big company in the US cannot get away with.
-
Well everyone is saying Apple will introduce a 11.6inch Macbook air with an SSD. Who knows what else then might announce (in terms of hardware). Don't see a touch screen mac yet. Looking forward to see what Lion is going to offer.
-
-
I hope they put an SD card reader in the White Macbook. I'd sell my new uMPB and get one.
-
If OS X gets a 'Liger', I'm SO buying a Mac.
-
-
I am currently considering the 15" but the 330m is a bit meh, I would love it if they upgraded them to a 425m -
-
I'm also hopping(can't I?) for a 420m in the MBP 13.
-
I personally would love to have this over the built-in SD card reader because one can easily use a SD Expresscard card reader instead.
-
i miss that one.
-
Anyone hear if they are going to live stream it again?
-
-
-
I think the issue here is that the Black Macbook was just as/more stylish than the 13" MBP, and the SD card is not a significant-enough differentiator (The only functional difference between the two).
I think they'd hurt their higher-margin MBP sales. -
I'm dying, I have to go to class a little after 1PM, and I'll miss the event
