Apple Store Vancouver - May 24th

I know, I'm being selfish . But there are quite a lot of Vancouverites here on the forums, actually...and finally, the very first Apple Store in Canada west of Toronto opens, Saturday May 24th, 2008!

I'm very excited. Finally, it arrives! After all these years!

Well the second one is opening in Edmonton in West Edmonton mall, actually want to get a job there, dunno how.

It was ridiculous! Although I loved it...kinda rainy today now the sun's out.

 

Yeah to bad eh? I just had snow up till a week and a half ago in Edmonton. Really want to move to Silicon Valley badly.

 

Sam you should go to the opening ceremony, I remember going to the one that opened in Eaton centre 2 years ago.

VERY excited! I'm definitely going as well.

 

I'm right in Vancouver, actually, south Vancouver side. For now, confirmed is the first 1000 people get free Apple T-shirts.

 

Two of which will be you and me I'm assuming.



Anyone have any ideas on when to get there to be the first 1000? (Short of sleeping there)

It was over 100 degrees a few days back, so it's not much better here in terms of extremes.

Latest I've heard, its a typical mall Apple Store, but the logo is suspended and hanging instead of in the wall. I'm excited to see it!

Oh, and a random note from me: I'm happy that Vancouver's getting a store finally, but Pacific Center...its okay, but man, Robson would have been great. It probably would have been a flagship store too, since it'd be on the big shopping streets, just like Regent Street (London), Fifth Avenue (NYC), St. Catherine (Montreal).

 

Yeah, it would have been much better as a stand-alone store on a street like Robson than Pacific Centre. I think that was a mistake by apple. But then, can you imagine the lease on a large store on Robson?

 

Well, the average cost of rent on Robson St. is $208 per square feet...and Apple Stores generate an average of well over $4000 per square feet .

But it'd be awesome, for sure. I mean, Fifth Avenue, Regent Street would have cost even more.

 

Even if it is just the typical Apple Store, who cares?

It's an Apple Store, in Vancouver!

 

This will be the fifth store in Canada but only the first in Western Canada! Has apple finally started paying attention to the economic shift from east to west in this country? I think Calgary and Edmonton can use at least a store each.

 

Well, Calgary & Edmonton started construction on an Apple Store before Vancouver, I believe...they just didn't finish before. But Vancouver should have been open almost from the start...if you ask me, Canadian expansion should have been Toronto & Vancouver back to back openings.

Should it be somewhere other than Pacific Centre, yes. Robson near the HMV would be a good spot, I agree. Or maybe Granville near the Future Shop. Since they are trying to spruce that area up nowadays. At least it is close to Skytrain, not like Mac Station on Broadway. I wonder how they feel about the Apple store?

Might there be some other giveaway more impressive than a t-shirt that they did not announce? O.O

 

Possible, the only confirmed is T-shirt but in previous openings they have discounted "Apple packages" and stuff.

 

I'm at Pacific Centre right now...about 130 people in line! 2 hours to go!
