Considering pretty much all of Apple's lineup is in the 1000+ market it is not surprising that they have a big dent in there.

Really don't agree with the "high-end" part. They're expensive...not really high end. In most cases you get more with a PC for your money. You can usually get the same thing out of another notebook for 25-30% less. But I guess people pay for that OS....

But they do have some good values. I'm looking at the iMac right now and it's very reasonably priced compared to other PC's like Dell

I'm sorry but your logic has big dent in it. The prices that Apple charges (being in higher end sector) wouldn't attribute them to to higher sales, just higher revenue. Your statement suggests that Apple gets more sales because their Macs in a higher priced market, that wouldn't make sense.

Apple's sales are higher because people like their products. :)

yeah with there whopping 6.1% to 7% percent in overall market share :]
looks like linux is catching up really fast. estimated to be 7% by end of 08 of total market share
yeah apples stuff is pretty pricey and you only get middle of the road parts
hey if your dumb or not very good with computers just get a mac
i will love to compare an dell xps/alienware/gateway p laptops to mac book pros with the same price and i bet you will get better parts with xps and so on

The article even said it itself. All but one model Apple sells is over $1K. But they do make a good point. This flies in the face of the theory "cheaper is better."

Pretty much what it comes down to.

Why is there always a troll in the Mac forums? It must be boring in the Dell (Dull) Vista forums all day, it's quite understandable. :D

i think you have just said the dumbest thing ever!
An apple computer is a PC. PC is an abbreviation for personal computer.
if you would call me a fanboy then you would mean a windows fan boy and linux fan boy. I am a proud fan boy of linux and all open source pc related software..
i am sorry to inform you that a MAC is a PC despite those apple commercials you been watching try to tell you. you gotta love those commercials if the dude from jeepers creppers says that apple's mac is better then windows it must be true then.

:D Thought this was pretty funny as I was scrolling down reading the drama unfold.... I trolled through here because I was reading the "New Posts" threads. I give it to Apple fans, they are like Linux fans who worship their OS/products like none other... even amongst difficulties be it in higher price range or lesser software support. It's difficult to use Linux, but I'm trying to support it via Ubuntu! Once Windows STEALS all the ingenius innovations that Steve Jobs comes out with for the OS-X, Leopard or whatever it is now, then it won't be necessary to pay the higher proprietary price for MAC products. Windows will then continue to dominate and... assimilate the apple. :p

    I kid, I kid.... :twitcy:

Apple can continue to dominate the iPhone/iTouch ... nice products. :)

Just stop arguing. You know no one is going to win anyways. And just because someone purchases a mac, does not necessarily mean that they are dumb. That applies with windows as well. You're just giving off bias statements and wasting people's time.

Actually, you can play crysis really well with a mac. Just install bootcamp with a windows OS. You can play it on a mac pro with 8800 GT cards. You can order those GT cards from nvidia and apple and add it to your mac pro to play crysis really well.

It's fine. We all have our different opinions.

Having owned an XPS M1210 myself, I find it hard to believe you would dislike the hardware that Apple offers in addition to Leopard.

What a cheap piece of hardware. Ugh.

I think they are in the high end. They might not be high end for gaming purposes like alienware but their hardware is what usually dell offers at their high end for a great price + osx makes it very high end. =D

I'm really amazed at these numbers, its hard to imagine 60% of the computers priced above $1000 sold are Macs. I guess what this really symbolizes is that there's such a large segment of the population buying sub-$1000 computers. I mean, nowadays, all powerful notebooks are at least $1000.

And this research only takes major retail into account. Most people who are spending over $1000 are going to do their research and shop around, and will end up at a smaller computer store a lot of the time.

(Is just glad the Mac craze hasn't taken hold at his uni)

Well I guess the gpu has to be sacrificed for the sexy thinness of aluminum of the mbp!

Man running a 8800m will make the mbp the same thickness as a dell xps (which I think are totally nasty looking)!

But then most people who buy apple products just dont care or dont have the need for gaming, maybe this will change since the intel move?

But I do have to say that the Mac Pro is an awesome deal and apple so far seems to have been keeping up with the hardware on that.

Yes and no. Dual-processor/eight-core machines are sweet, as are the various hard drive and RAID options. The main problem is the only multi-GPU option is limited to the yestertech Radeon 2600XT. The 8800GT is a fine single-card solution, but what about an 8800GTX or SLI? If the motherboard can only do Crossfire, why not use the Radeon HD3870? Or better yet, how about 4 Radeon 3870 X2s? :GEEK:

Send it to me. I'm part of the NBR Panasonic crew, and we love toughbooks. We don't even care about the almost non-existent video cards ;)

To the troll; My Mac Pro rocks. You should see my stats anhilating folding@home work units with just this one machine.

But hey, I don't game. I use my computer to do what I want it to do, and I've used it for work.

For the original post; Good job Apple! I know many people who have switched, and love their Mac.

Is this just a US article because the sales of Macs in the UK are not what they are in the US. Also how about Japan and China? Maybe this article should be titled Apple dominates high end sales in the US.

If they maybe looked at the bigger picture they might not find this to be the case.
I thought that world wide that Sony and maybe Lenovo dominated the sales of high end computers. The higher end Dell's probably do well worldwide also.

Well, Apple sales are highest in USA, for sure...its also really popular in Japan. Lenovo actually has a rather small market share considering its business-only, and the majority of corporates don't like $1000+ laptops to buy.
