For those of you looking for a great deal on a Mac, you should go check out the refurb store this morning. There are some crazy deals to be had. It's been awhile since they've had such a variety of machines. With deals like these available, people buying new are really cheating themselves, and you usually don't have to wait for them either. They ship quick right out of California, no waiting from Shanghai.
Even with the bad luck I've had, it's temping to pick up a CD Blackbook for 949.00.
FYI, Apple refurbs are top notch. If it weren't for the refurb packaging and serial number, they would be indistinguishable from new. I'm not just saying this, I've bought more Apple refurbs than I have fingers.
Get moving, people, these things go fast!!

I wouldn't get the CD...heat issues are ridiculous.
-
I had a CD. Heat wasn't an issue.
-
Let me remind you that CD is a 32bit processor while as C2D is 64bit. Leopard is supposedly going to take full advantage of 64bit architecture although Leopard will still run on CD.
-
This is hilarious. I point out that there are good deals to be had, and the only thing people around here do is point out flaws in me thinking a $949 CD Blackbook is a good deal, which it is.
Just so people know, I know exactly what a CD Blackbook is, and what it can and can't do. I'm not buying it. I'm really not even in the market for a new machine.
I'm not ripping on you guys, I seriously think the comments in this thread are funny, though.
-
those are soem great deals...if only i hadn't already ordered my mbp i would consider just getting the refurb
-
Mick,
I feel for you (kinda) man. For once, you are posting a positive comment and people are ripping you. -
I know. In the short time I've been here, I've developed this sort of grumpy reputation. I extend a hand of good will, and what do I get in return?
I may need to rethink my approach. -
~$115 tax added to the $1699.
This is definitely a great deal, but I'd like it better if I could get the refurbs from other sellers to avoid the tax. Then again, it'd lack the "from Apple" name quality.. -
That BlackBook is certainly a good deal. 64bit really isn't an issue, since there is no software that makes use of it!
Thanks for the info, Mick.
EDIT: they seem to have already sold the CD BlackBook, but they have a C2D Superdrive white one for the same price. Doesn't look as good though
-
Thanks for the news, Mick. Probably gone by now though
. I did hear of heat issues on the Core Duos, but it was mostly about the MacBook Pro, not the MacBook.
I understand what you mean
, but at least they were trying to help you out
(as much as it wasn't necessary).
-
Hey, sorry Mick. I didn't really mean to direct that comment towards you but to potential buyers.
Back then there was a really good deal on the old generation of MBP. 1349 for a MBP. I almost bought it fifty-two times but I always held off because of the heat issues and CD. -
Mink, huh? That's a first.
-
No apologies necessary. When I said I thought it was funny, I meant it.
-
Oops, typo, my bad...
-
Well, this morning, Apple added some new machines to the refurb store. There are some really good deals to be had.
If anyone is looking for an entry level CD MBP, your day has come. They have them for 1299.00. That's an amazing deal for a MBP, from Apple, no matter what kind of processor is inside.
Of course there are a bunch of other machines, but that MBP was the one that really jumped off the page. -

you have been a little grumpmizer!
but i do acknowledge the good will of your intentions with this particular thread. -
I have plenty of good things to say about Apple computers, but when people ask a question like, "Should I buy a Macbook?" I tell the truth, based on my own personal experiences. It would be irresponsible of me to tell people that I liked my Macbook, which I did, without telling them about the negatives that go along with owning one, which are plentiful.
I used to be a lot like a lot of the posters in these, and other Mac, forums. I loved Apple computers, and ignored the negatives. For me, the bloom is off the rose.
The number one thing a computer needs to be is reliable. If I can't use the computer, what's the point? My Macbook got to the point that it was going in for service every other month. That's about as far from reliable as you can get. I can't run around telling people how great Macbooks are when, for me, it couldn't be further from the truth.
I'd say I'm above the curve when it comes to spending money with Apple. I've owned more of their computers and iPods than I can remember. I will own more in the future. I think I've earned the right to voice my complaints. -

ok, grumpmizer.
-
Apparently you've had only positive experiences with Apple computers. I haven't, and my most recent machine was a real piece of junk. If you had wasted as much time and money as I have on current Apple hardware, you may be grumpy as well.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
im just messing with you, and i feel bad about your bad experience.
i did get a good machine though. -
I wish I had. I really loved my Macbook. I always tell people, of all of the computers I've owned, the Macbook is my favorite, except for...
I'm really counting on Apple getting it right with the next generation of Macbooks. I really hope they do away with the plastic (not counting on this one) or, at least, using higher quality plastics.
Don't sell your MBP. Macs are like snowflakes.
