Last year when they offered the free nano, did you still get the $200 student discount on the MBP?

Don't think so. You could send your product back to Apple if you're not too late. In the UK, Apple has apparently scrapped that restocking fee or whatever it was called, so it would cost nothing (except time and effort) to swap your Mac for an Mac with a promotional item. Otherwise it would cost you 10% of your Mac.

 

will this just be the start of the promotion? or will the promotion only last for Monday?

If it's the latter than i may have to purchase my MB/MBP earler.

 

The promotion usually lasts a few months. I think (not sure) that last year's promotion only ended in October or November.

 

Is the promotion only for students or also for educators? My wife is a teacher and I plan to use her discount to purchase a MBP.

Will she also be eligible for the promotion or is it strictly limited to students?

Yes, seems like the promotion will be for students only, from last year's ad it says:

"University students: Buy a Mac. Get a free iPod nano."

But the website discount is also for teachers, staff members and faculty.

 

that makes sense..."education discount" is for everyone but the iPod thing is for college students only. Do you know anyone in collegE? just get them to go to teh store with you

 

last year, I said that the phone rep I talked to forgot to offer me the nano, when in fact I really just hate rebates, so I told Apple that and they ended up sending me a nano anyways- sans rebate, kind of off topic but love their customer service, hopefully the dude didn't lose his job over it, if they reviewed the tape he would have been absolved and I would be flagged as an idiot customer. Anyways, now they have a life long customer and stock holder.

 

lol, although the rebate is a pain in the you know what, it actually does work. I've done it several times and it hasn't yet failed. I always get my money back.

 

Actually, I just read the terms and conditions on the ipod nano rebate form from last year's promo and it looks like teachers are included: "Purchase an Mac and an iPod Nano with the Education Discount and receive a $169 rebate." Then you can describe your status as Teacher, Faculty or Staff.

Usually it only applies to the currrent generation models. So any models that actually come out during the summer are typically not eligible. Read the terms and conditions carefully and check to make sure the model number you are interested in is listed.

 

Hopefully the rumors about the deal being more "aggressive" are true, and they either bump it up for a free iPod Touch, or lower the Touch's price.

 

last year they did the free ipod promo at the same time as they released the new macbook pro. it was convenient for me.

I bought back in end of march, i couldnt wait, so i did so. I couldve used the ipod (if thats what it is), but i just couldnt wait.

 

In Canada it's not opening, the Apple US site follows Cupertino time which is 6:07am PDT right now. Business hours should start from 9am there.

 

The only deal I can see if the Creative Suite deal. Is this the deal they were talking about last week or is something else going to be on the store tomorrow?

Give it time. My sis i gonna buy a mac soon and a free ipod touch would be nice for her. Whatever the promo is its gonna be great.

 

last year, it was $200 towards any ipod, which meant you could get a nice nano or pay $50 and get a 5G ipod.

now maybe it will be $250 or $300, so that you can get maybe an 80GB ipod classic, or pay $50 and get an 8 GB ipod touch, or maybe just get an 8 GB ipod touch straight out.

 

Do you think they would offer a monetary value towards the purchase of any iPod or just give you the iPod.

The reason i'm asking is because i'd much rather get an 80 GB Classic than any touch simply because of the harddrive space.

 

in the past, the way they did was as follows:

you buy a mac, you get the $200 discount for being a student.

then, you are offered a $200 rebate with the purchase of any ipod. (again, only for students)

so you could buy any ipod you want, for $200 or more.

so has this been confirmed that its def an ipod touch, not something else or other amount of money on the rebate, or is this gizmodo article further speculation as to what the free thing this year will be

if its the touch this is freakin sweet, 300 bucks for the 8gb so are they upping the amount they are giving away too if last year was 200

Awesome deal! So, will this work in any Apple store or do I need to go into a college bookstore or use the website? I was planning on buying my sister a new macbook for graduation and I was hoping I could just take her to the apple store here in NJ (lower sales tax) and pick up the macbook/iTouch.

 

You should be able to get the deal at a brick and mortar store. But you'll have to take a Student ID with you; they check it at checkout.

Trying to find out if Macmall, etc support the student pricing and/or the promotion, just curious.

it will be good at both online and b&m.

also, if you decide you want a 16GB or 32GB ipod touch or a 160GB ipod classic, you should still be able to take advantage of the $300 rebate.

 

That sucks, I don't go to school in the US... oh well.

 

I wonder if this promotion means the iPod Touch won't be seeing a refresh. I was hoping the iPod Touch would be refreshed at the same time as the 3G iPhone to keep the designs in sync, which would make sense on an economy of scale basis, and maybe offer 16GB in the current 8GB price point.

 

The ipod's refresh will most likely happen in september, it's been around that time from as far as I can remember.

 

it probably DOES mean that the ipod touch will get a refresh. probably about a week after the promotion is over. a free ipod touch with every mac is a great way to push more mac sales AND a great way to clear out stock on ipods.

This sucks for people like me, because i always wanted an iPod but i could never afford one.

probably not. january is like 6 months ago. thats 6 months more usage you get out of your machine than someone who buys it today. also, whoever buys their machine today is subject to miss out when the macbook pro and ipods get updates (most likely AFTER the promotion is over)

last year, you only got $200 towards an ipod, but the macbook pro was also updated before the promotion began. this time it looks like $300 towards an ipod, but most likely with updates to the ipod and macbook pro happening AFTER the promotion.

computers are always moving forward, technology always gets better and cheaper. that means you will get a better deal for waiting. you have to live with it. now is NEVER a good time to invest in a new computer. just like now is NEVER a good time to invest in a new car. so you buy it when you need it and don't worry.
