I like the promotion! 8 GB iPod Touch is definitely a step up!

This also applies in Canada, yes :). Check apple.ca for that :).

Not happening in Ireland. Was looking to get either a HP Blackbird 002 to Hackintosh or an iMac 24". I would jump on this if the price were right (i.e if Apple would quit f**king the Irish over conpared with everyone else) but it appears we don't matter to them. Even if they did discount it they charge us more than the UK anyway ex VAT. And thats is the Eurozone. Roll on Lisbon. Steve Jobs you can burn.

Anyone know how much shipping would be from the US to Ireland for a 24" iMac and would customs ask questions for what is essentially an educational purchase within the US? It may be my only hope. Help. :(

Hmm, looks like I might break my oath and purchase an apple product!

A macbook and ipod touch would nicely compliment my main rig for university though. Of course once I get that poor touch I'll probable get way too into the hacking business though hehe.

You can return the MBP for a full refund and then purchase a new one on the deal with the free ipod. You have a right to return, the length depends on where you live but its usually 14-28 days. I'd go for it. Asking for an ipod that wasnt purchased with the MBP initially probably can't be done as they have to sort out the receipt and dates to qualify.

A somewhat unrelated question: Is it possible to store and view PDFs on an iPod touch?

Not with the current applications released by Apple for the iPod Touch. In fact, you cannot even copy files/documents to the iPod Touch by default.

    Thanks.

Well, in the commercials they show the disembodied hand opening a pdf attachment on an e-mail, so I thought....

Yeah, it can open PDF documents on webpages and E-mail etc. But you cannot store your own documents for access at locations without wifi.

As Budding rightly said this can't be done out of the box. But if you take the Touch out of Apple's little box by jailbreaking it (which cannot be discussed here due to NBR rules) you can. I use Wildeyes from Installer.app on my iPhone to accomplish it, there are better apps like Moleskin but my iPhone is a bit firmware battered due to my own messing around and I will use it after my reformat. Also Apple are releasing the Apple store this month which I would lay bets will have apps that will allow you to do this. PDF viewing is very important to me as well. If you wish to find out more about jailbreaking etc and please visit

The app store will be released soon, yes, but it won't be free for Touch users. I know the apps themselves will cost money, but the actual firmware 2.0 will cost money for Touch users. So I recommend jailbreaking your Touch. Then you can install the application PDF View. Transferring the PDF to the Touch can be a pain if you don't have a wireless network, so I recommend iphonebrowser. Visit the site above for jailbreaking info.

Jailbreaking is possibly the greatest thing you can do to your Touch. I don't know what I would do with mine if I didn't jailbreak it. It might void the warranty, though, so be careful! If you need more info, also visit ipodtouchfans.com. The forums are helpful.
