Just wondering where Apple's customer service ranks in your opinion. I was doing a Google search on this topic and to be honest, 90% of the comments/stories were slightly to very negative towards their customer service.

Has anyone had any experience with their service or have any stories/info to share?

apples customer service is very good. One thing to remember is that the bad is always louder then the good. People can very loud when burned and feel the whole world should know, and the people that are happy don't neccessarily say anything.

Good point, so I'd like to mention that Apple has treated me very well. I've bought several Apple products and have had a couple of problems: 1 dead iPod and 1 dead PowerBook. Each was returned to the local Apple Store and each time, within a half hour or so, I was given a new machine without any hassles at all. Obviously, IMO, Apple definitely backs its machines very well. :)

With the new iPod I was also given an extension of the original warranty, from 12 to 15 months. Not a long time, but it was free.

FWIW, a yearly customer satisfaction survey is done by a magazine, maybe PC World (can't remember for sure) and Apple's rating for the last couple of years has been at, or near the top. If I can find the right magazine and issue, I'll post it tomorrow.

I have been using Macs for several years. Support has been good. Never had a Mac repaired, so I cannot speak to that.

I basically took the excellent build quality and support for granted until I purchased a defective Averatec last fall.

Now I am very thankful for the support Apple provides. I am treated very well at my local Apple Store.

As for the survey that was referenced in a prior post, I think it may be PC Magazine. Apple and Dell got Readers Choice Awards in the September 20, 2005 edition.

PC Magazine dismissed satisfied Apple customers as lunatics in midst of a religious experience.

I would take anything in PC Mag with a grain of salt. In a sidebar to the Apple rating, they promoted that totally unethical and unscrupulous computer seller, Averatec. That's how I got burned by Averatec.

I cancelled my subscription to PC Magazine.

Thanks for the info guys...good to hear.

And RadcomTxx you're definitely right and I agree with you completely...although sometimes it's easy to get swayed by those types of opinions.

    Thanks again.

My wife has a Mac at home and the good news is that they were amazing. Sent her a brand new replacement computer for a computer that was nearly 2 years old. The bad news was that the her ibook had a lot of problems - however I understand that was a quality issue from a couple of years back with iBooks.

My PB lost it's hard drive a few weeks back. Drove it to the Apple store, waited to talk to a Genius, and handed it over. About a week later it was back in my hands good as new. Maybe not the fastest repair in the world, but they couldn't have made it any easier.

True, but in a forum like this where people post there problems to get help, you do tend to hear more bad then good.

Alienware also did very well in that study but according to most users on this forum and others (and reseller ratings) they aren't so hot. Though both do better than dell for instance.

Two of my cousins are mac users and another of my aunts-they are very happy with their apple products-but they've never had a reason to deal with support
