I'm going to buy apple care on ebay, and they are all "i'll email you the code"

What's in the apple care box? does it really matter that i'm not getting it?

I believe, although its been a while since I purchased it, its simply the card with the code on it, a brief booklet about coverage and a cd with diagnostics in some cases.

Don't buy it. Its a scam. The seller doesn't want to send you the sealed box because they plan to return the the Applecare after time passes. The scam is they will sell you Applecare for an incredible price. They will insist on emailing you the code rather than sending you the sealed box. Applecare is a service plan and any time left on a service plan can be returned for a prorated refund.

So for example, the seller sells you Applecare for your Macbook for $115, he emails you the code and you activate your Applecare. Everything is fine for a few weeks, then after you've left positive feedback a few weeks later the seller will return the Applecare back to Apple and get a prorated refund. The seller is still ahead since he sold it to you for a low price, but he gets the prorated amount refunded so he makes out. You go and get your Macbook repaired and Apple looks up and sees that your Applecare has been cancelled. There's nothing you can do at this point. I repeat, don't buy it unless the seller sends you a sealed box.

The first one is legit and a great price. http://cgi.ebay.com/AppleCare-for-M...ultDomain_0?hash=item4a9e2fc413#ht_500wt_1182

Don't go for the second one you listed. First the seller doesn't list what country he is from. Secondly, check out the pic that I uploaded. In the top right portion the seller says he will send you a sealed box. The bottom left portion the seller says he will email the code. Doesn't look legit. You could always email the seller but when the seller has discrepancies like this I wouldn't trust them.

I have gotten several Applecare warranties from macman812 on eBay over several years. They are highly rated and have been selling them for years. They buy a bulk license (say for 100 or 1000 machines) at a significant discount from Apple then individually piece out individual coverage, passing on that discount while still making a profit. You get the code in an email (because they never got a box to begin with), register with apple and usually within a day or two you have your certificate of coverage.

So while there are no doubt scammers out there, there are also some good honest folks offering good deals. And once you have your certificate of coverage, you are pretty safe (as Apple care is not returnable or refundable at that point). So while there is some risk, there is also considerable savings.

ALWAYS get a sealed AppleCare box, from a reputable seller, the current model # being sold @ Apple.com or Amazon (you can find this in the Apple shopping cart or the Amazon product page).

This avoids any possiblity of scam sales, and ensures that you are registering the most current version of the warranty, thus eliminating any problems that could crop up with trying to activate an old warranty on a current product. It doesn't matter what the Ebay seller says in their listing - Apple has the final word regardless.

I've had complete and consistent success with this approach over the past 3 years for 4 iPod/Touch units, 5 Macbook/Pro, and one new 09 iMac.... all purchased through eBay, all at 50-70% off retail pricing.

Thats not entirely true. At applecare we have a department called Agreement admin. They specialize in Apple care all day every day. When an Apple Care is registered in our system the serial number on the apple care box is linked to a sales receipt and the Agreement number. The Agreement number is the code we use to register an APP to a computer. IF someone registers an Apple Care then THEIR PERSONAL information is registered with it ( Name, number, address, Date of Purchase..ect ).

What will happen then is that when the Seller of the APP goes to collect a refund he will then be required to obviously show personal information such as ( Name, Phone number, address and sometimes computer Serial ).. Clearly at this point the information won't match..

If the Seller of the APP purchased the APP at a 3rd Party Reseller they will have no choice but to refer the Seller of the APP to AppleCare to figure out how to "Unlink" the APP from the computer.

Once Agreement sees that the information linked to the Registered computer is different from what information the Seller provided, well then the Seller is forced into a situation to prove that he is the owner of the Registered computer… which at this point won't happen.. Refund DENIED...

Like Jimbo said I have bought my applecare from macman and he had only emailed the code but its been roughly 10 months give or take and my apple care is still in tact and he has 99% feedback rating even for apple care sells he had 4-5 years ago so some sellers who say they will only email the code are alright.

Is a link to one of the sellers items if you were interested in buying from him. he has 9000+ feedback at 99%
