I'm not a fan of buying extended warranties but for notebooks it's not a bad investment (the magsafe power adaptor alone is $99 to replace!). The problem is that they're so expensive that their value is hard to justify.
For example, FutureShop wanted $419 for a 3 year Product Service Plan. Ouch! Apple wants $299 for applecare on a macbook which seems much more reasonable especially considering that you get full phone support for the 3 year period, but it's still expensive.
A friend of mine emailed me a link to this company in Ontario called SIG Electronics and they have a sale right now on applecare packages. I just ordered the applecare for my MB and it came to $165 including taxes and shipping ($149 +GST+shipping). Applecare for MBP is also 50% off for $199.

Anyhow, I thought you Canadians out here might want this info shared.

Sweet, thanks. Might end up getting Apple Care from them then
-
Well I heard there are many applecare packages on eBay in the US for about 50% off MSRP but I never trust buying things like that from eBay. I'd rather buy it from a physical store, and preferably from an apple reseller. And at this price it's a no brainer.

Nice find, eh?
-
Let's hope it's not a scam. I guess I'll be finding out soon.

It is really hard to find applecare deals like this? When you purchase applecare what do you exactly get? A serial number and some instructions?
-
My understanding is that you get a box with a serial number/code for activation with apple Canada. You can get that code via email for faster service and no shipping fee but an email handling fee applies.
Some people have got a diagnostic disc in the box while others said that the disc content is downloadable from apple. I'm not sure which is right. -

50% off?! Darn! Too bad I've already bought mine.
When I bought my Applecare, it was the box that had the code on it.
-
Haha yeah typical FS...that price for the service plan is ridiculous.
-
I should get this now...good deal!

I ordered it last night and it was shipped this morning through expedited Canada post and was emailed the tracking number. That's pretty fast service. I'll update this next week when I get the package.
