I have a question in this respect to anyone who might have successfully had their Rev.A's swapped to B's.

I gave one of my Rev.A 1.8 SSD's some time ago to a friend, and it turns out she'd been having the same issues I had - Jet-engine fans and stuttering in high-ish ambients in fairly mundane apps - but she'd been too polite to mention it. I swapped it for one of my in-storage Sony TT's and she's been much happier with it - and even exposure to Vista generated a 'Mojave opinion'.

The problem is that I'll need the TT back eventually, and in the meanwhile I have this pile of crud lurking in my closet. If my own Rev.A -> B experiences are anything to go by, it will be a slightly better experience, and I would imagine workable for her so my plan at the moment is to try and get it swapped by Apple, then do a swap with her.

I have booked this - and the other A that I had - machine into Applecare several times during '08 with well-documented problems but it came back 'no problems found' every time. This - and the fact that the B was better, but not hugely better and at the expense of some runtime - was the reason why I abandoned the Air altogether.

So the question to anyone who has successfully had an A swapped to a B is, what were the steps? What did you claim? If I can reproduce these issues instead of just writing down the specific problems I've had then I might have a better chance of getting this swapped. Maybe. Thanks

I just got lucky once and had a Genious who didn't know squat just swap me a rev B for a rev A a month ago. other than that if you can cotinually reproduce the errors ( which normally isnt hard ) hook up the webcam and tape the damn thing howling and stuttering they will get the point eventually

Wow... TT's are kind of expensive to have a bunch of them just lying around in storage.

If you need to free up some more storage space, I can take a few of them off your hands for you... for free ;)

    LOL...

The TT's a pretty sweet machine IMO. Not as powerful a CPU as the Air... but now I see why that might be a good thing.

By "at the expense of some runtime"?... do you mean the Rev. B gets worse battery life than the Rev. A?

    Awesome... lol...

Well - this is one way to do it, but since I was obviously mobile when I was using it, reproducing the exact situation on demand has not been easy as the ambients have usually been against being able to reproduce. I was looking for something along the lines of a procedure by those who have had a replacement in order to demonstrate that it needs one.

After seeing all the references to it, I tried the Youtube thing after I made the first post. Although the fan was jetting away after a while I was not getting a hangup - but then, ambient was 19C. I'm going to have to try it when it's hotter.

A slightly ridiculous thing did strike me however doing this - that a frackin (albeit high quality) Youtube video should be hitting both cores at 80+% - the same as a Sony UX running Vista with a Core Solo 1.33
