OK, here's the deal... my wife has an ibook with Tiger 10.4.10. I bought her a Epson Stylus Photo RX595 because it says it was all coolio with Mac 10.4 and even Leopard with a download... Plus I had thought that Epsons and Mac's got along fine...

So I installed the disc, then plugged in the Printer, it added all the software like Epson Scan and Photo Impressions etc.. and instructed me to add my printer from the printer utlility. So everything is hunky dorey, the print utility recognizes that an Epson Stylus RX595 is connected through USB, and it auto fills in the first 2 lines at the bottom, (the name of my Printer and the location), which lists my (Wife's name)'s Ibook. The last line has a dropdown which says "please select your printer model", I am assuming this is the driver that I am selecting. I also assume from reading online and the instructions that it should match the printer name that it found. Well no luck here, almost all of the Epson drivers say GIMP V.5 Beta 2. The closest thing to the printer I have is a GIMP driver that says Stylus Photo RX500, I selected this and added the printer, but when I send anything to the printer all the printer does is shoot paper through until it runs out.

After some frustration I go to the Epson site and download the driver for the RX595 for 10.4 and it savers an executable and as a disk image to my desktop, it runs as an application and asks for my password on the mac etc... and seems to install the driver, or at least says it fisnished installing the RX595 drivers. When I go back to adding the printer it still lists only the GIMP drivers...

I am sure I am mising some easy step, but unfortunetly I cannot figure out what that is...

The scanner seems to work fine (it's an all in one) but when I even try to do a nozzle check or head cleaner from the Epson Utility, it says there is a communication problem with the printer...

Please please please any assistance would be great!!!!

Umm.. yes.. the ink cartridges are fine, I have printed from the card reader just fine... sorry I should have mentioned that.

I have started over numerous times. But I believe the issue is that:

    1. the only driver listed that is close says Stylus Photo RX500 while mine is the RX595

    2. the driver is listed as GIMP v. 5 beta 2 as are about 75% of all the Epson drivers listed for me to choose from.

I have installed the actual driver download from the Epson site, ran the program form the image on the desktop, rebooted and tried again (as Epson support told me to do after I had already attempted), and still the only driver listed that is close is RX500 not RX595 and is a GIMP v.5 beta 2 driver. I don't know a lot about Mac drivers, are they all GIMP?

Again any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks!

LOL! The ink cartridge was too obvious! :p Where do you see GIMP? In the Printer Setup Utility? Am I missing something? Sorry, I do not actually have this printer. I have HP printers. From the Support Page link I posted above:

Try Uninstalling the Software, then reinstall directly from the Epson Website. Does no one else use this printer (or maybe another Epson) with their Mac?

i have had absolutely no problems using Epson printers on a mac, as well as many different epson scanners, you should be able to just install the drivers that are included on disk, or just download the latest as mentioned above. and you should be able to print even without installing any drivers, using OS X.

sounds like you just need to add the printer and choose the proper drivers or just let OS X choose the driver for you, really you shouldn't have to install any drivers as they should already be installed alongside OS X, the stuff on the disk is to make all the other stuff function properly, scanner, etc. as most all in ones need proper drivers for that.

so are you completely unable to print? you need to clearly state the main problem.

    Sorry...

I am not able to print, the printer starts and just shoots paper out until there is no more when I give a print command.

Here are the steps I have taken...

I load up the software from the CD or from Epson's site. (tried both ways after completey removing the previos software)

    I reboot the computer

I attach the printer via usb cable

I open up the print utility from the mac hard drive

It says I have no printers

    I selecet add printer

It searches, and auto fills in the name of the printer Epson Stylus RX595 on the first line

It auto fills in the location which says "My Ibook" on the second line

the last line says to select the printer from the list

The list does not contain the the RX 595, only the RX500 and some others, but again most of them say GIMP V5 Beta 2 after the name of the printer...

I cannot complete the printer utility unless I add my printer from the list...

This was the way that the Epson web site and manual said to install, is there a better way?

    Thanks!

Sorry, I typically do not use Mac's... I understand they are supposed to be easier to set up than PC's, I must have some disease... My PC works fine with the printer...

The CD is universal as well, so I am not putting in the wrong one, LOL

    Thanks again for any help!

Did you ever get your printer installed?

I think I know exactly what your problem is because I had the same issue and spent an hour and a half with Epson support.

Yeah absolutely. I suggested PMing him because that user may not be coming on the forums anymore and a PM sends a message to that person's email address notifying someone has send a message. So there will be a better chance of the person reading it.

But I totally agree with xander. Please do work out the issues on this forum for the benefit of everybody. :)
