Apple Back to School - Education Store - Apple Store (U.S.)
Yup, I guess it's time for some of us to empty our wallet.![]()

I'm on my way to my campus bookstore to pick mine up today. Cha-ching.

I'm interested in taking advantage of this deal, but I was curious. I posted on facebook about this deal and one of my friends said to maybe wait and see if they release anything new in the upcoming months. I thought they just upgraded the macbook pro not too long ago? Do you guys think there will be any other updates or anything new introduced, or is it fine to go ahead and get it? Sorry, I haven't kept up with all the updates lately. TIA!

Are they going to totally upgrade the Macbook Pro Series?

Not a bad deal. I'm tempted to buy a 13'' Macbook and sell the touch. Like getting a Mac for sub-$1000.

If any updates happen, it will be after this deal. The main reason for back to school is to clear out old stock.

Well I still think buying on eBay brand new from a power seller is a much better savings, but not bad for those who don't want to go that route, still totally fails that are so many restrictions on the credit, and how you still have to pay for the iPod up front.

Sooo did anyone notice that the education discount on the regular MacBook was reduced to $50, down from $100? Still not a bad deal, mind, but that's very...Apple of them.

Wow. I guess i am gonna go for that cheapest mac.
But i got 2 questions.
Can i change the harddisk myself from 250gb to 500gb? What about the OS?
Can i change the ram from 2x1gb to 2x2gb using the same rated speed?
Thanks man. -

Thanks for the prompt reply!
Will do.
Gonna try to get my sister to buy the mac since she needs one now.
Then gonna transfer the 2x2gb ram from her asus f6v-e since ram prices are sky high now. -
How long does the 'mail-in-rebate' process take?
2-3weeks? -
an FYI about this promotion, I bought a MBP from an Apple Retail Store yesterday since my school has been out of stock for almost two weeks. When I asked them if I could choose something else since I already had two iPod Touches (8GB gen 1 & 32GB gen 3), they let me choose any iPod so I got a 160GB iPod Classic.
I filled out the rebate form right in the store online and got confirmation right away. And for those who might ask, you can get all "Apple" education discounts (computer, applecare, etc) from the retail store if you bring in your student ID and regular ID. -
So, I am looking for a new notebook, and will generally only be using it for Word/Excel/Ppt (basically taking notes in class), music, watching movies online, and photos. Is the Core 2 Duo in the Macbook Pro sufficient for this, or is there a reasonable performance difference in conducting these tasks when compared to a Core i3/i5 processor? My alternative is the HP Envy 14, but the only disadvantages are cost (no free iPod haha) and Windows 7 (no iLife which I really like).

Just paid for mine about an hour ago! Can't wait!

just a heads up.
I went to a local apple store this sunday and got a 13" mbp, a 8GB touch and a HP wireless printer($130 in store) all on the same receipt.
already sold the touch yesterday.
today, I was surfing on apple.com and saw the same hp printer marked down to $100!
called the store and they are asking me to come down physically to adjust the price (will save about $33 including tax).
a little disappointed that they cannot do this over the phone since their whole setup is so professional and refunding $30 + tax back to my credit card should be a cinch, but i guess it's a choice between spending 45 minutes and gas money to go save $33...
more than the money, I hope this adjustment does not mess up my online rebate submissions because it could be construed that a change was made to the original receipt.
my plans to sell the printer may compound the mess further....
Another thing that jumped out big is I plugged in the serial # of the touch on apple.com for warranty status and it shows a 2nd gen touch!
I didn't realise the back to school promo for 8GB was a 2nd gen touch, am assuming that apple did not upgrade the 8GB touch in their last refresh?
here's hoping everything goes well. -
Yup, it's second gen, just like the site says.
