    Hi,

I've recently been looking at the Alienware m11x for Warcraft gaming whilst at my boyfriend's house. However the latest version seems to really struggle with end game content and raids. I was wondering if anyone here was running World of Warcraft on the cheapest 13" MBP? If so do you raid and what sort of framerates are you getting?

    Thanks!

This exact thread is posted in the "What Notebook Should I Buy for School" forum. There's a dude who was asking about 25 man raids on the MBP 13".

I was able to tank 25man ICC on a 10 year old desktop just fine. No addons, all graphic settings at minimum, but still. WoW is very scalable; almost anything will run it. The question you should be asking is - how high can you turn the graphic settings up on the 13'' MBP?

I didn't try it on a actual mbp

but i DID try it on my old white macbook and it works no problem. (25 man raids included)

Therefore it should work on a MBP which supposedly has much higher specs

I did 25mans on the 2.4GHz unibody macBook with the 9400m. The new MacBook Pro should do even better.

I'm having doubts that you can play it @ full speed with max settings.

I'm too not concerned with getting max settings really. So long as I can play the game smoothly (by that I mean a good 25fps) on some of the settings that's fine. I accept that with portability I'm going to loose some of the shine, and in the long term I plan to pick up an imac for home WoW use (amongst other things). I was just hanging on with the imacs as I know they are supposedly due an update soon. This was really something that I can pick up on a Friday and cart over to my boyfriend's for the weekend so we can play the game together in the same house (feels less antisocial that way! :D). However if the spec I mentioned will struggle with the content even on the lowest settings that's different.

Haha i see, then you probably (99.99%) won't have any problems nor complaints for the baseline 13 mbp.

Really? I was getting playable framerates on ultra on the macbook pro in my sig. (of course what I consider playable maybe differs from what you do).

The reason I'm going for the cheapest one is, like I said I'm saving for 27" imac. So this is really just to accompany that. It's warcraft lifetime will only need to see me through til next spring when I'll be moving in with my boyfriend anyway. After that it will be retired to light graphic work and internet usage. So whereas I'm going to go all out on the imac to get the best I possibly can, I really am happy to settle for a lot less on the laptop. With the apple care it takes it to just under £1200 and that's really the maximum I want to spend. So as long as it can give me 25fps on some settings (even low ones) then that's all I require. If it gives me playable framerates on ultra I'll feel like the luckiest girl in the world. :p

There's only one option for the i5: the 330M GT 256MB.

I use the settings in the MacBook thread on the Warcraft forums. Its a few things max, a few things mid level and shadows at like 1 tick. and it runs just great. If i want better i move to my desktop and max everything out.

Yes I have the Hi-Res LCD.

I had a laptop with a GTX 280m that couldn't play WOW at Ultra 1920x1200 (8xsupersample). Ended up having to turn the "ground clutter radius" and shadows one notch down.

However even integrated gpus can play wow to an extent on lower settings.

On a 17inch macbook with a 9600m I can play 1920x1200 with no supersample, and settings medium-low. I think similar to what altecX said.
