My favorite part about the new mbp is the battery indicater lights, they look awesome

is there any hack or any software that can keep them on all the time whenever your laptop is open?

    thanks

They're not going to last very long at that rate :p.

And no, I don't think so, at least if possible, not yet.

Does it stay on forever if you were to just hold the button down?

Cause if it does, and you really wanted it badly, you could either just solder/splice/etc the switch so the circuit is closed completely. (I saw "just" but you'd wanna have some electronics skill before you actually attempted it)

Might void the warrenty though ;p

I don't understand the rationale behind putting the lights on the side. When the MB is on, your taskbar indicator is much better for checking battery life. When the machine is off, turning it over isn't too much of a hassle for those of us who don't have the notebook on an elaborate stand or something.

Perhaps Apple could have done without the indicator and used the space for FW.

They didn't do firewire for a reason and it's not because of the battery indicator being there.

I know that Jobs claims that FW is no longer useful, but the outcry from so many people is indication that it is. I personally don't need it myself.

Apple preaches simplicity and the elimination of unnecessary things on their hardware. Well, to me, the battery indicator built into the case is a bit superfluous.

Maybe have 2 battery indicators would satisfy everyone? :D I actually won't mind that!
Since we're also talking about ports, I'm really bummed that there's no eSATA. They should have put in an extra USB/eSATA combo port.

A usb/esata port would have been nice. Its like what they have on the voodoo 133.

Well I guess its more useful for people who have their laptops in their bags.
They can see how much battery they have, instead of having it pull it out and check it underneath.

Yeah, its purpose is for those who want to know how much battery is left without turning on the notebook.
