    Best Monitor for Macbook pro.

I searched around for a while trying to find a solid monitor to go with my Macbook pro. The screen onboard the laptop is so sweet that it was jarring every time I looked at a different monitor.

In short, I’ve settled on the Samsung Syncmaster 24in (model 2493HM) It seems *almost* as good as the screen onboard the macbook pro. Its pretty darn bright and the colors are almost the exact same as the macbook pro. Plus, it has HDMI and VGA so I can use it with an old PC on a KVM as well as the macbook pro.

Before this I tried a dell ultrasharp 22in, a 22in Hyundai and the Samsung 25.5 in (also known as the 26in model 2693HM).

Here’s the rundown in chronological order of trying:

The Hyundai. Forget it. Dead pixel, plus the colors and brightness were nothing like the macbook pro. OK, fine I could have guessed this, but I figured I’d *try* the budget option before shelling out bigger.

The ultrasharp. Although I’ve relied on a dell monitor for years on a PC, it just didn’t seem to be able to pull off the colors correctly on the mac. I work all day on my computer (code, writing, etc) and the colors cant be wildly different then the mac. I partied all over the settings many times and just couldn’t get it to work out. Maybe I missed something, but the ultrasharp just didn’t happen.

I was juuuussst about to by one of the Apple displays. I wasn’t happy about this since they are expensive, seemingly dated and only accept one input. So, I made a last effort and tried the Samsung Syncmaster. By now, I was a little tired of testing monitors.

Viola! The 25.5 in Syncmaster did really well on color and an increased resolution (the previous ones we’re 22in). So all was good. But then I noticed that the 24in version of the same monitor had smaller pixels, was $100 cheaper and supported the same resolution so same amount of stuff on screen. Not only that, when I took it home, it was actually easier for me to use on my desk since the screen was smaller. With the 25.5in I felt I had to move my neck around a good bit to see around the screen.

So there you have it. For my use and setup, the 24in Syncmaster rocks.
I searched the boards quite a bit while trying to find a good monitor. I hope this helps others. Best of luck!

I got a Samsung 2253BW for my new blazing desktop (see sig), and its gorgeous. Great design, amazing brightness (had to turn it down to like 65% and it was still very bright), great colours!

apple's cinema display is an S-PVA display if im not mistaken its either (S-IPS or S-PVA); it is of a high quality display; contrary to popular beliefs; the price difference you pay is not for the brand; or for the cool alumunium casing; it is of the panel and the component inside the machine; like the colour processor etc. what u get is 178 viewing angle (160 is the norm) and richer, smoother more true colour.

not all samsung syncmaster is the same; the model number ending in BW is the TN panel one; the S-PVA is the one with model number ending in T.

    So:

    Worst
    ---
    TN

    MVA

    S-PVA (samsung proprietary)
    S-IPS (LG proprietary)
    ---
    Best

edit: hey! i just noticed ur looking into samsung 24". is it the syncmaster 244t? i have that for my desktop gaming; its really good! :D

Sam - what happened? Why no iMac?! *pouts* lol

I've heard great things about the Samsungs. The new model with the glass lip on the bottom looks great, too.

    No complaints about Dell either.

I am using the apple 20 inch cinema display and I am happy with it, it is pricey though.

Not sure there's a best, but the suggested monitors so far are excellent, IMO. My very first LCD was a 17" Samsung which still, about five years later looks great, though it's way slow in comparison to newer monitors. Some of Dell's monitors also are very nice, and often available at great prices - too bad they don't cut it for you. I'm biased - I love ACD's and own two of them. They're expensive in comparison with the competition, but, hell, so is the MBP (which I love!). LOL

Haha, I'd love an iMac, I can't afford it . This desktop cost me about $1100...an iMac with similar specs would be well into $2000!

Sammy, you probably couldn't get an iMac with anywhere near those specs. The processor and graphics are just too much for the iMac to handle - you can't get one with a quad core, and you can't get anything better than midrange graphics. While I love the iMac, it most certainly has its limitations.

I actually thought the Dell WFP 2407 was pretty good (my dad got one with his workstation), but I guess its not good enough for your standards.

Redline, correct about the iMac...no quad core available. You'd have to buy a Mac Pro! lol
