Should I pay for a burning program or is there a good free one that is equivelent to nero or a free one for windows?

I will be doing some .iso files (or whatever the mac equivelent is)

If I could find a free program to mount files and programs that would also be great for backups etc.

    Free is the best :)

I use Toast Titanium, but that costs money. I'm not too sure about free ones though.

Disk Utility - can mount/burn .iso straight out of the box and it's already inside your computer.

    Definitely a very good point.

Before paying $$ or considering alternatives you should first explore OS X's native burn support, Disk Utility.

Though, Disk Utility is not equivalent to Nero. Toast Titanium has similar features to Nero. You may want to just boot your MacBook into Windows and use Nero anyways.

I agree, start with the cheapest and then work your way up. I would start with Disk Utility and that open source one above. If they don't work out for you, try out the demo of Disco ($29). If that does not work, then Toast ($79) last. I would only get Toast for a specific feature you need because it is quite large and rather costly when most of the others listed will likely do what you want.
