After lurking a lot in several mac forums, I have not found a clear answer about what is the best option to migrate application from one mac to another. I think that time machine is the quicker and easier way, but some say that is better to use time machine only for files, because migrating app can cause problems. The point is that I ordered a new MBA 13'' a couple of weeks ago, it will arrive in a few days and I'm not clear if reinstalling patiently everything would be better option than using TM.
Any advice and comments would be greatly appreciated.

just doing a Migration from the old machine to the new... with everything.. Apps, settings, etc... is the best way to go. Then you got a new machine set up just like the old machine, and everything is where its supposed to be. Some activated products like MS office might need reactivation... and Migration Assistant doesn't like Virtual machine files since they are so big, so those might be a pain too.

I've actually never had any problems moving VMWare files using System Migration Utility. What have you seen happened? Corrupt files, or they just dont transfer? Pretty interesting to note in case I run in to any issues at work in the future

if they are very large.. it just errors saying they were too large to transfer, and doesn't try to transfer them

Thanks for your replies. I've got parallels and windows, MS Office, and some heavy files. I suppose that using Migration Utility all this stuff will be automatically skipped...

no... large files I mean like 100gb files. Migration assistant should work fine, you just might have to manually move a large VM.
