    Hi,

I would like to know if any of you that have reapplied thermal paste on your MBP have managed to to get the GPU diode temperature readings as close as possible to the GPU heatsink temperatures?

I've applied Tuniq TX-2 and the temp difference between my GPU and its heat sink is between 10-12C.

Any recommendations? I find that the GPU tends to run a lot hotter than the CPU most of the time. On average it is 10C higher than my CPU temperature.

Also I would appreciate it if you could post your temperatures after booting your MBP without loading any apps for 3 minutes. If you have reapplied thermal paste please mention the type and brand as well.

For those that would like to know how they could read their MBP temps, download and install iStat from here:

    Thanks,

maybe AS5? I know it's not the best, but still.

Arctic silver is the most popular with enthusiast it seems. most people that replace the thermal paste in the MBP (and any other computer for that matter) uses Arctic Silver 5.

this site might help you with Mac temperature.

the GPU always (in most cases) runs hotter than the CPU.

The best you can hope for with a perfect application of AS5 is a few degree's. Its not going to do a wonder job and drop 10ºC. Here is a long winded but usefull site showing the difference between the thermal pastes.
Interestingly toothpaste does a better job the AS3 ! Go figure.
So my advice is to take caution, 1) you will void you warranty changing the thermal compound. 2) miss apply and you will be worse off, 3) even a good application isn't going to fix the issue.
Perhaps a a good laptop cooler pad maybe an easier way to drop the ºC.

I recomment arctic silver ceramique, its non eletric conductive so if you accidentally get it on the circuits or it leaks onto them its much less likely to cause damage than AS5

Yeah, I hear a lot of good things about arctic silver as well, although I never reapplied paste myself. About when should I reapply the paste on it?

As for temps I get around 57-60 on my GPU, and about 45 on my heatsink.

i had to reapply paste when i was replaced a broken fan. wasnt necessary but i removed the heatsink just to get the dirt out of the fins

after applying as5, the temps are pretty much the same. so dont do it.
