does anyone else notice a bit of screen flicker when your computer is cold and on low brightness level? It's like the screen needs to warmup a bit before it stops the flicker. I notice it mainly on white/grey screens. It's mild and goes away after awhile but kinda bothers me a wee bit.![]()
By the way, this is on a new uni-body Macbook Pro 2.53.
thanks.

does this happen while plugged in, or on battery?
-
both, it makes no difference.
I have auto-brightness turned off as well. It really only does it when the computer is cold, say after it's been turned off or in sleep mode over night. Again, it's most noticable at the lower brightness levels, say 1-4 clicks to the right. -

i dont have a flicker problem, but my macbook display flashes off/on every now and again for seemingly no reason.... anyone else witness this on their mbps? maybe the two "issues" are connected?
-
i don't have any flash on/off issues. Mine is just a very mild brightness level flicker, seems to be only noticeable when computer is cold and at low brightness levels. Crank up the brightness and the flicker goes away. After the computer is warmed up (after a few minutes) I can bring the brightness level down again to minimum and the flicker seems to be gone. It's weird, guess it's not a big deal, just want to know if other people have the same.

Yes, my MBP has the same thing going on, but only when the battery is low and on charge. I have not changed the 'auto brightness' setting (yet) and not sure this will solve the issue, as others have mentioned above. I will also set the brightness levels a few clicks above the 'low' setting where I tend to keep it and again, hope for the best.

(ps. thanks 'AJ' for posting, I thought it was just me! : ) -
I'm only guessing here as I've experienced this on my high end LED torch.. LED lamps control their brightness by adjusting their power output frequency via a clock. meaning they pulse at variable frequencies in order to produce the perceived dimming effect. This pulse/flicker is faster than what the human eye can usually detect and can be seen by swinging the led lamp in a circle so you can see the trail of pulses at all brightness level EXCEPT the maximum power.
Now back to the LED screen flicker problem, I believe that the regulating clock is slightly faulty as it should not need warm up.. well I could be wrong.. please check with apple care to get some wisdom on the matter? -
haha, well, i'm glad it's not just me too!
But again, for me, it seems just when the computer has been off for awhile then once warmed up the slight flicker goes away. Whether plugged in, low battery charge, full battery charge, doesn't seem to matter.
Keep me posted of your experiences with this issue. thanks -
'pulse' is a good word to describe what im seeing. Again it's very mild and only noticeable at certain times. I would check with apple but i think they'll probably think im being too anal or won't see what i'm seeing. And because my new laptop has been perfect in every other way I wouldn't want to exchange it for another one that might have other issues.

anyone else seen this?

anyone else??

The new mbps are plagued by this issue when setting the brightness level 1-3 notches it pulsates slightly and the backlighting flickers.
My 2.53GHz 15" unibody mbp had the same issue but I sold it off a couple of months ago. -
did u get a new one? same issue?
-
maybe need to get a replacement... even at 1-3 i have no flickering on the screen... also have a 2.53ghz unibody MBP.. I actually use it down there a lot when running on battery.
-
try it with 9600 and put a load on your gpu, get it hot, and then try .
-
I didnt buy another mbp I just bought one of the new mac mini's instead and running it with a 24" LED ACD and currently waiting for snow leopard to buy a mac pro desktop.

I'm having this issue with my white plastic macbook (bought in 2006) as well-actually it has been happening for a while, the screen flickers when it's cold/on low brightness level, and my apple care runs out in less than two weeks.
Do I have a case for repair? -
yes,contact them ASAP
also, I have flickering issues on ALL of my laptops and desktops except X40,so...
-
Have you tried to turn off the auto brightness adjustment feature?
-
(.filler.)
-
screen flickering (often occurrences) is a defect. you must contact apple for repairs.
-
same here.
-
And going to apple store tomorrow, hopefully will get it fixed
