Hello! Recently I just notice something on my recently purchased MacBook. Everytime I open up the screen cover on the laptop from Sleep Mode it turns on and you can hear it power up then right afterwards you hear this scraping noise near the lower left side. I'm not sure where this noise is coming from considering the CD Drive is on the right side. Any inputs please respond. Thank you so much.

do you hear the noise like theres something scraping somewhere inside the laptop, or is it a sound coming from the speaker?

I believe it's coming from the inside of the laptop since even if I have my speakers off, it still makes that scraping sound.

I am not so sure about my HDD but I would think it should be alright since I just bought it brand new early October? What do you think? Thanks.

Hard drives fail sometimes even if they are brand new. The HDD is under the left palm rest, and resuming from sleep would power it back on from a sleep state. I would have it check out/replaced.

Just few minutes ago I restarted my computer and tested it again but now it doesn't make that sound. I normally just put my computer to sleep for days instead of shutting it down and opening it back on. I guess now that it just restarted, it's good but I am afraid that the sound will come back again after a few days of just sleep/wake up mode. Is it something that I have to be worried about and be checked?

I would shut it down regularly a couple times a day for a few days and just see what happens...test it. It is a good sign it didn't make that sounds when you restarted it. If it continues, I would have Apple take care of it.

You can also try putting the OSX DVD in the drive and running the hardware test to check everything out.

I ran the hardware test but didn't find anything wrong with it. I tested it again and again and found out that it *might* be the speaker. Searched too and found this other thread regarding this but never resolved. "scratching sound coming from speakers when returning from sleep."

Sometimes it makes the sound, sometimes it doesn't. I get annoyed by it at times but I try to forget it. I am just worried that it is something that will get bigger overtime. A bigger problem, that is.
