I was recently configuring macbooks on the apple site and noticed that an identically configured white macbook was only $50 cheaper than the black macbook. I remember that the black initially carried a $150 price premium. I'm not sure if this is old news, but it seems as though the price difference isn't nearly as ridiculous as before.

Yep, I noticed that too when someone else pointed that out. Tough call huh? I'm in the same boat but I decided to go with white.
EDIT:
Oh I remember why I went with white. According to a review between the black c2d and white c2d + others like mbp and pb, the white c2d was faster than the black (odd) in 6 of the 8 categories.
Go White!! -

lol, well they are only colors. The only difference in performance would be if there was different hardware, not different colors.
-
Yup, they have the same hardware and same speed. Only difference is casing. I'm personally disapointed with the black. It's a very dull black, not a shiny black like I expected.

Hmm, this is quite interesting.
I've always longed for a Macbook but the extra $150 for a Black version was simply not possible for me. But $50 on the other hand...is very tempting.
This really does bring quite a smile to Macbook Enthusiasts such as myself
I preferred the Macbook Black version over the white because white colors are easy to be affected by dirt and discolorations.
Especially, myself who lives in a subtropical environment, it's quite hot over here and I tend to get sweaty at times. I really would dislike having my sweat create yellow-like stains on a new White Macbook. -
The original 2.0ghz white macbook and 2.0ghz black macbook weren't equally configured because the black macbook had a larger hard drive. It still doesn't justify the higher price, but there is a difference in hardware between the two.
It's all a matter of preference, but the white macbook looks toyish in real world environments...imo of course. -
